Is there any american clothing brand that has really stood out? I had a discussion earlier about it and I think americans really haven't contributed to fashion.
>Rick had to move to Paris so he doesn't count
>The designer/brand has to be successful in order to be considered

Austrian born designer I believe.
What does he has to do with this thread though?
>>
>>12700937
He was the quintessential "New York" designer in the 90's. He may have been foreign born, but his design was unequivocally American.
>>
>>12700961
>his design was unequivocally American
no it wasn't
like not at all
look in to what is actually considered american design in clothing

You're right, at least about high fashion. Most American contributions to fashion have been utilitarian and street/pop culture movements. Fashion as art is a pretty urban concept, and America has been mostly frontier and farmland til relatively recently.

If you consider how brief its history is, US cultural impact on the world is unprecedented, but again, seriously lacking in high fashion. And since it's a nation of immigrants/ex slaves, most American innovations could be seen as multinational collaborations.
