There is no need to be upset.
Either let it fill out fully first (give it a month or three and see if the above points are gone or not) and then trim it neatly.
If not, just try again in a year or two.
Some people have a full beard by 18, others only fill it out fully by 30 or so.

Moisturizing both the beard hair and the skin covered by it is important to keep it looking good and to prevent your skin from drying out, though. But moustache styling is dumb, yeah.
