I know it's """effay""" to prefer minimalist shit because it conveys a sense of ascetic austerity and implies a certain strength of mind (like, you don't need elaborate entertainment cause your soul is deep enough or someshit) but the fact remains that contemporary hardcore is simply more intense, more powerful and more impressive than gabber. And seeing how gabber was never supposed to be more than dumb dance music in the first place, there's no legitimate pride to be found in preferring it to mainstream hardcore.

If you want to sound like you're an authentic, intellectual and stern individual who doesn't buy into mainstream consumerist entertainment,, listen to musique concrète experiments or someshit, not to an outdated subgenre of dance music for coked-up Netherland chavs.
