>work as camera crew for this fashion sales event
>the entire thing is filed with fat tumblr women and single moms
>keep watching, it sounds like a clothes sales pyramid scheme
Is this a real thing?
yeah it is.
the technique used is deadly. the reason SEO and online marketing is dying is because people don't want to see advertisements from companies they want to see advertisements from people they admire or are friends with (instagram, fb, etc). You can pay an entire wing in a building to market for you with minimal results or you can throw a couple products directly at amateur models/customers with increasingly better results.
People prefer to hear things from their 'friends' on social media than they do from a company.
On to the deadly pyramid scheme that evolves:
>Fat woman, single, unhappy, slaving away with no end in sight, momentarily paused by a weekend alcohol/food binge
>Fat woman finds a pair of leggings that just 'works for her' and her 'body type'
>She buys 15 pairs of them
>Posts a few pictures of them on instagram
>Company reaches out to her and tells her she can get a tiny % commission, free products, or discounts on future products she buys.
>This costs the company next to nothing
>In return she aggressively markets the products to her 'besties' who end up buying 15 pairs themselves.
Instead of 10+ people being involved in a sub-par, unfocused marketing process; you can reach dozens, hundreds, even thousands and only 2 people are involved.
