If you have a sewing machine you can zigzag it, after you used a seam ripper. If you would use overlock it would look ugly. You can also cut it as close as you can with a pocket knife scissor. It isn't a sin, but there's info on it about how to take care of it. You can throw it away, keep it or sew it somewhere else
