I typically wear Iron Rangers, but I'm looking for another pair of boots I can switch out with them, preferably in the same price range.

Aesthetic requirements are that they have a flat sole (no huge-ass chunky lugs) and performance requirements are that they be tough. I walk a lot and I don't need boots that are going to fall apart the first time I step in a puddle or snow drift.

Asking the same thing. My Thai-made 1490s haven't lasted well at all (4 months of use), even though i've kept a care-routine up well. The leather, while soft to wear and touch, has gotten creases, skid marks, deep scratches and shit in 'em for months. I think they were clean and good the first month, but not longer after that. Would Solovairs fare better (or thrifted MiE-Docs), provided I'd take good care of the leather.
