How does one go about designing clothing with meaning and depth behind them instead of throwing random "aesthetic" stuff on it?

If you have to be told then you shouldn't be doing it

i think clothing design is something you feel and then do, i don't find shame in random aesthetic stuff as long as it looks good. if you ask people how they make art, you're not ever going to get a right answer. you have to go with what is you.
also, i don't know if i've seen a lot of clothes with great depth and meaning behind them. especially in graphic tees.

One does not, clothes are clothes.
Inspiration > literal idea > clothes
Let's look at Andy warhols soup cans. The inspiration is consumer culture in America, the. Literal idea is getting Americans to appreciate everyday items they see, the product is putting commercial art in art galleries.

You have an idea and then you have vision of how to actually produce it as a piece of clothing. That's all there is to it really.
