for people who are used to fasting (greater than 2 days)

What do you suggest in order to sleep at night?

Not eating is the easy part, but I hate the feeling of being in bed and not being able to sleep.

I don't stay in bed all day either, I usually workout for 50 minutes a day and walk a lot too.

I've tried 10mg melatonin, extra strength sleepy time tea, and magnesium before bed and nothing seems to help.

Reposting from last thread to seek out for more tips

I am a 19 year old male, about 67kgs. I've never been quite interested in being skinny or taking up anorexia as a hobby, but recently I've become very self conscious about a certain feature of my body and I wanted to ask you guys about it.

The deal is that my legs, are naturally very fat, large, wide. To be more specific, my calves are massive in comparison to my thin body. They appear very muscular to others, while in reality I don't work them out and they just seem to be massive. Buying skinny / slim jeans is a nightmare because no pair of pants fit properly around my calves and I always have to buy a bigger pair of pants, which end up hugging my calves, yet being way too wide at the waist and way too long.

I don't know if the 65-68 kilogram weight range appears thin to you guys, it probably doesn't, but many would describe me as a pretty thin dude, a frail, young-looking guy. I don't eat a lot because I don't have a lot of money, live by myself and usually just forget to eat or something. The problem is, while my shoulders and frame in general seem to vanish after periods of starvation, my legs always stay as fat as ever.

Is there any hope for me to have slim, slender legs? Has anyone got any experience with losing weight specifically around the calves for males? I'm tired of looking like a short, stubby-legged dude with no properly fitting jeans. It seems as if I've never had thin legs even when I used to starve for months. What am I doing wrong?

Pic related aren't my legs, but the problem seems to be similar.

anything OTC?

I've considered NyQuil and Zzquil, but I'm fairly certain they're high calories since they have sugar (Ordinarily I wouldn't stress over these calories, I'd rather just stay close to 0 as possible while fasting)
>>
>>12173875
Yeah, I wouldn't drink that sugar while fasting. Those aren't very effective anyways.

Problem is your fight or flight response goes in high gear when fasting. I never take sleep aids except when I fast, taking my gfs ambien.
>>
>>12173873
Is there anything unusual about your walk? (Bow-legged, etc.) I have a friend who is bow-legged and the guy has developed monster calves from the extra exertion.

Maybe I'm just lucky but I just can't understand how people have problems sleeping. I have NEVER had issues falling asleep, and I can be out like a light in 15 minutes or less as long as I have a blanket and somewhere to curl up.

Do you go to bed at the same time every day? Having a routine time to go to bed has several benefits and will make you fall asleep easier. Just manually slow and deepen your breathing and go to bed at the same time every night. The rare times I have trouble sleeping, I just "imitate" the physical responses that the body has before falling asleep and it works.

Hey guys I'm 1.79m and 63 kg. What do I do when my mom offers me a sandwich? I don't wanna ruin my way to become the ultimate skeleton but she looks so happy when she sees me eating some food?

I don't think so, unless I've developed some sort of autistic walk after spending 2 years glued to my computer in my teenage years. I guess noone is brave enough to point anything like that out to me, though.

>>12173920
Yeah, I might be a little bit too fat, I don't know, my body just seems to be out of proportion in general, I don't quite like how I look.

>>12173922
Yeah my legs aren't as huge as that, he's probably built. But I can definitely feel my legs being sort of big, out of proportion with my whole body, and it makes me look weird. Or maybe it's just that my body is not that good looking in general and that's what makes me look weird.

I'm currently in class and I don't have a tape measure at home, I can't take pictures of my legs at the moment

I only problems sleeping when I fast for more than one day.

I try to go to bed around the same time everyday (more or less 2 hours)

And when I fall asleep I can only sleep like 1-2 hours at a time.

If your mom is into health foods it can be a fun interest to share, i.e., you can share recipes and things with each other.
When my mom learned that I was trying to lose weight she shared her favorite spinach salad recipe with me and bought me a kitchen scale for christmas. Maybe if you play your cards right you can get her to switch salads for sandwiches.

Anyone else get general anxiety when they stop restricting?
>>
>>12174010

>>
>>12174061
No, like I don't worry about eating or getting fat but I feel constantly anxious for no reason (or worry about health etc, starndard GED stuff), but only when I eat on maintenance for more than a few days
>>
>>12173930
Just eat the sandwich, you'll make it up. It's only 600-700 calories tops, your TDEE is probably somewhere close to 2000 calories a day, that's pretty much nothing in the scheme of things to make your mom happy.

>>
>>12174069
Not sure why that would be. I will say food has a profound affect on me and I've found changes in diet make a big difference. It could just be maybe you're eating more carbs or something else and it is causing you to have some different feels.

Scream at her "I'M ON A FUCKING DIET" and then, pin her to the ground, take the sandwich and shove it in her mouth. Make her eat all of it while yelling "WHY WOULD YOU THINK THIS IS A GOOD IDEA MOM?!@#" while she cries keep shoving it down her throat. Then let her wash that sandwich down with your urine.

Benadryl will work just as well as quetiapine since it works as a sedative by targeting histamine receptors. Benadryl is an OTC allergy med while quetiapine is an antipsychotic that feels like a fucking horse sedative.

Also quetiapine is associated with major weight gain.

You don't have to be if it is working for you. Just do whatever works for you. Try both! I find it to be more of an experimentation thing.
>>
>>12174389
yeah in high doses antipsychotics are severely sedative. but at low dosages it could do the trick and occasional use should not affect your weight. and where i live it is basically free and i was on it for about four years, that is why i thought of it.
>>
>>12174419
Oh I see. I tried the lowest dose available (1/4 of the therapeutic dose) and I couldn't even go up to 1/2 the needed dose. It knocked me out completely, I had trouble standing and couldn't work at all. I also started getting extrapyramidal symptoms so it was an overall unpleasant experience.
>>
>>12174419
*Also I was told the sedative effect would go away with increasing the dose since your body gets used to the antihistamine effect while the other properties of the drug kick in)
>>
>>12174438
Yeah some head drugs the less you take the more sedative they are, the more you take the less sedative. Kind of strange.

Do you mean you're constantly hungry? If so you can tell your doctor. I got a medication switched when I told him I was constantly hungry, even after increasing my intake, and that even a huge binge wasn't making me feel full (this was actually the truth though).
>>
>>12174521
Oxazepam, zyprexa, lyrica, depakine and effexor. Pretty sure it's the zyprexa that's making me a fatty.

do you not eat meat? i think everyone would be better off cutting high carb foods and wheat products forever, they honestly offer you nothing, even fiber is negligible. the only reason wheat products are on our food chart is because it's the most powerful of the food groups. many people don't know this, but the food groups are separate industries that compete for influence over consumers and keep each other in check. grain has a massive influence thanks to corn, which is now in literally everything bad for you and fed to livestock and etc.

Whole grain carbohydrates have good levels of vitamins, minerals and protein. You also do need carbs in your diet. Unless you are fairly well off financially I don't think you can live off of protein foods and vegetables alone.

2. FRUITS, AND VEGETABLES, ARE NOT EXPENSIVE IF ONE SPENDS ONE'S MONEY IN WHAT IS ESSENTIAL TO ONE'S DIET; MOST PERSONS REGARD FRUITS, AND VEGETABLES, AS "EXPENSIVE", BECAUSE THEY DO NOT KNOW HOW TO SPEND THEIR MONEY, NOR HOW TO EAT, THUS, THEY PRIORITIZE SUPERFLUOUS CHEAP "GARBAGE" OVER THE ESSENTIAL.

A) Cut eating until they become a <10 bf %, probably even <5% (they have done this before and lost 30 lbs in 3 months easily)

b) Keep eating a regular amount in an attempt to gain extra height

you need absolutely zero carbohydrates in your diet. your liver is quite capable of producing glucose to fuel your brain while the rest of your body runs on ketones.

Isn't there a question of protein quality, though? I was talking to my dad, who isn't a doctor but who used to work in medical labs, about how much protein peanut butter has and he said that chicken breasts, for example, had protein that was more readily processed than the kind of protein found in peanuts: hence, the "highest quality protein" you see on egg cartons and advertisements for eggs.

animal protein offers all essential amino acids and the majority of micronutrients that you need. if you include things like eggs and milk in the "animal protein" segment, you can get all essential amino acids and micronutrients from "animal protein".

BESIDE THE OBVIOUS FACT THAT THEY COME FROM DIFFERENT SOURCES, YES, THERE IS; VEGETABLE PROTEIN IS MORE NUTRITIONALLY PURE THAN ANIMAL PROTEIN —VEGETABLE PROTEIN IS METABOLIZED MORE EASILY, AND BETTER, THAN ANIMAL PROTEIN—; ANIMAL PROTEIN IS POLLUTED WITH "ANIMALNESS".
>>
>>12175181
I'm not going to deny that ketogenic diets are great for some patients, especially obese people or people with fatty liver disease, but there is still strong evidence against excessive consumption of animal fat (evidence unrelated to the lipid hypothesis, I don't really believe that high cholesterol=heart disease either), as well as recent evidence suggesting that mothers who consume High fat, high protein diets have offspring with heart disease phenotypes (due to epigenetic changes).

i hate capslock guy as much as any of you, but he's right. there's nothing inherently worse about a vegan diet, except for the fact that you might need a few more vitamin supplements. (most) poultry, fish and eggs are obviously still good for you, but it's entirely possible to cut them out and replace them with non animal products with no problem. milk and red meat are memes and nobody really needs them unless you're bulking or something.

while this is true, for people who are trying to lose and maintain their weight, it's good to keep the option for more satiating food on the table, and animal protein is a very good source of that kind of food.

no one here should think that they're better off eating a plate of brown rice rather than a slice of prime rib for reasons other than their caloric content. i personally find animal protein much, much more satiating than vegetarian sources of protein, but that might be an individual thing.

>while this is true, for people who are trying to lose and maintain their weight, it's good to keep the option for more satiating food on the table, and animal protein is a very good source of that kind of food.

SATIATION IS NOT EQUIVALENT WITH NUTRITION; WHAT IS RELEVANT IS THE NUTRIENTS THAT CONSUMES, NOT HOW SATIATED ONE FEELS.

ANIMAL PROTEIN IS NOT A BASIC NUTRIENT, THEREFORE IT IS UNNECESSARY.

>no one here should think that they're better off eating a plate of brown rice rather than a slice of prime rib for reasons other than their caloric content.

ANYONE WOULD BE BETTER BY EATING BROWN RICE OVER A PORTION OF FLESH; RICE IS A BASIC FOOD; FLESH IS NOT.

>i personally find animal protein much, much more satiating than vegetarian sources of protein, but that might be an individual thing.

No, animal studies have shown the opposite. They show high carb diets make rats fat. They also show that feeding rats high carb diets versus high fat diets, the high fat diet rats live 20% longer.

>>12175322
Actually cancer requires glucose to spread, so there is a lot of evidence that no carb diets are good for starving off cancer cells. Fasting accomplishes this easier, but keto diets are about 70% as effective at doing so.

Anyone do bedroom workouts?
I can't afford a gym and its too hot here to work outside at those public bodyweight places. I've been doing 100 sit ups and 50 push ups within a 20-ish minute window. Half then a break, then the other half. It's not enough to make me ripped or anything but I figure its better than nothing since my lifestyle is pretty sedentary other than walking lots (because no car). I don't really need to since I'm only getting around 600 cl with IF, but I always feel better right after and my stomach arms feel a lot tighter and I figure it speeds up the process, especially if I break and have a sweet or something and feel guilty. The burn I get in my abs is a nice feeling to carry around.

Another 'mones popper, spiro is a diuretic so it SHOULD help lose weight, but sadly us also being on estradiol, well that doesn't help a whole lot. Sot it kinda balances out. I just got my dosage knocked up to 100mg of spiro, though, and it's not been fun having to piss every fucking hour. But I must keep frof alive

honestly, we shouldn't have any problems that most others don't have. We should be alright
>>
>>12176474
I'm on 200mg spiro have fun ;_;
>>
>>12176464
But since I have days when I move way less than others, I feel 1500 would be too much...
>>
>>12176481
Just eat it and keep an eye on your weight? You'll be able to tell if you are eating too much, plus your TDEE should take activity level into account anyway.

I'll probably end up staying at 100mg. I don't think I'm going to get any more effects. I've been on mones off and on for five years, only recently getting an actual script though. So after 100mg it'd just be a waste for me.

>>12176481
you're going to fluctuate with weight within five lbs or so. That's fine and normal. Stop being dumb. If you gain, watch what you eat for a couple days. If you lose too much, treat yourself or sit around more, whatever. It's not rocket science
>>
>>12173953
how am i bigger than when i was a baby then?
>>
>>12175281
yeah I guess you will; drink plenty of water desu
i'm 59kg 170cm and still losing 1kg/week eating one meal of 600-800kcal a day (usually 50g protein, 20g fat and 60g carbs, with few exception days)
>>
How do I completely stop eating?

>58kg 177cm
Doing pretty much the same thing atm, one meal a day between 5-7pm, about 600 calories.

Not sure how long i can keep it up though. Kind of scared it will have a negative impact on my health.
>>
I've lost 13 lbs so far this month. I think I will change up my eating habits a bit to get more protein since I've mostly been eating soups though.

I was worried because I had a few bad days where I went out to eat and went over 3k calories, but keeping my normal days to 6-700 seems to have evened it out.
>>
>>12176459
Take your TDEE and consider that a starting point, then increase your calories toward that TDEE slowly and see where you even out. So if you are eating 1000 calories a day and your TDEE is estimated at 1500 then add 100 calories each week until you stop losing. Take it even slower as you get higher and you'll find your actual TDEE

Then pick a weight range. So 98-102. If you weigh in over 102 reduce your calories for a week by 250 or so until you get to 100 again.
>>
>>12176541
My goal is 50kg what is yours
I've done 10 day fasts before but I wasn't in school or working so I wonder how that will work out
>>
>>12176582
Yeah I go over when I eat out and then eat under enough other days to keep on track. For me that's the best for a balanced social life to health setup.

Lately I've been good going out though, because doing IF I still can't eat enough to go too far over my goal calories.
>>
>>12176541
Try lowering the carbs and upping the fat and see how you feel the next day. For me it helps a lot. Worth a try.
>>
>>12176661
initial goal was 50kg, but now i think 56 is also good enough; not that i want to quit my diet, but maybe being that skinny won't suit; will see when it's time
IIRC two years ago i fasted for two weeks and was nice, but i wouldn't do it right now, nor to lose weight (even thou it may be a legit way)

>>12176665
i feel i can't go everyday under 60g carbs without eating just eggs, tuna, cheese and meat; i avoid food with sugar; happy that it works for you

i'm a dude anyway

Eat a snackbar and try to sleep.
Take antihistamine or maybe some paracetamol (it eases my pain)
>>

Antihistamines tend to fuck with your appetite though

That said it wouldn't hurt to try I guess

Those jeans stretch out within 2-3 weeks. I stopped buying them.
They don't have Target where I live.
I used to buy jeans at Joe Fresh but they are so vanity sized the 0 and 00 are starting to be baggy on me.

Also I only earn 20 000$ a year, and I rather travel home more often or buy more fresh food than purchase extra clothes.
>>
>>12176728
I was 57kg 3 months ago and wasn't happy
Good luck

I'm sure keto is the future of human evolution or whatever that one anon keeps shilling, but keto fatties on social media have been my reverse thinspo forever. They look fucking hilarious thinking the only way to stop their massive body from ballooning further is by dissolving a stick of butter in their morning coffee and wrapping everything in bacon

Does anyone know how many calories are in a small plate of homemade vegetable lomein??? I know this is kinda stupid, but my boyfriend made some for lunch (he's so proud of it too), and I'm terrified it'll ruin my diet (already down five lbs woo). What do? I'd feel awful turning it down. If I eat just a small portion and eat lightly for the rest of the day..will it ruin my progress? I've been restricting from 800-1200 for about two weeks now.
>>
>>12177066
When I'm in that situation I just tell my bf I'm not hungry and ask if we can share a plate, and try to make it seem like I'm eating as much as him but only actually take a few small bites. It hasn't impaired my weight loss so far.
>>
>>12177072
Hmm doesn't sound like a bad plan! I'll give that a try. Thanks anon
>>
>>12175450
LMAO it doesnt work like that. You can't starve cancer cells without literally killing yourself.
>>
>>12177050
I was just ranting about that to a friend. They think "low carb" is good for them, but don't understand that they actually have to be following a keto diet for it to actually be of any benefit.

The more i lose the hungrier i get.
I guess the hungry skelly meme is real.

How do you guys balance eating enough to avoid a foggy mind while at school during the day but also to avoid an angry rumbly stomach keeping you from sleep at night?
>>
>>12177181
sleeping aids. i'm trying melatonin now but i used benadryl for a while since that's what i had on hand and it worked pretty well, though if you don't go to bed right away you feel like you're going to die.

coffee usually helps get me through 2 hours of class or so in the morning but i end up skipping all the time anyway. and i try do homework right after eating if possible, but sometimes you just have to power through it, or get a snack and then work it off the next day.

How many grams of sugar should I target if I eat 1700 calories per day?

I'm not on keto but want to keep sugar in check. I get it from healthy sources as much as possible when I do, although sometimes I'll have some turkey jerky or something and I noticed they add like 5g of sugar per serving sometimes..
>>
>>12177303
quality post, faggot

How do I avoid feeling like I want to die after I eat for the day? I'm still eating below my budget but doing it all at once just makes me want to throw up afterwards. It's really gross and it makes my stomach hurt.

I've been using Lose It! to track calories. It also has a feature that counts what percentage of your diet is what kind of macronutrients. Should I be paying attention to that? I've been thinking I ought to be eating more protein, but even on the best days when I'm eating a lot of yogurt and shit it doesn't usually get much higher than 40%.

When you first get used to IF, you are very hungry when your meal window arrives. You quickly realize your stomach has "shrunk" a bit and you need to use restraint when eating that first meal, which has the added benefit of making you feel full easier and therefore you eat less calories (if you need to eat more, then expand your eating window). After about two weeks, in my case, I didn't feel as hungry when my eating window arrived. It now feels how you did before mealtime as a mealcuck - just normal hunger.

Does it work to only exercise during weekends? I don't have much time during workdays.
>>
>>12177478
This is a vague and shitty question. Exercise always ""works"" but you won't be accomplishing much by going for 2 days. And what is ""working""? Burning calories? Yeah, a little. Building muscle? Only 2 days and assumedly on a caloric deficit? No. Maintaining some muscle? Hardly, and only if you're lifting.
>>
>>12177331
40% sounds like too much actually unless you eat like 300 kcal a day
You should count protein in grams not % of kcal consumed, not sure if lose it has that option

>>12177478
If you can't do it otherwise it's still better than no exercise
>>
>>12177415
You'll be okay to eat again. But be gentle on your body when you initially break that fast.

> I noticed my face is clearing up and looking more attractive
Yes, this is a result of autophagy.

I think occasional multi-day fasts are worthwhile for this reason. During the holidays I was able to maintain weight will still eating like a KING, but since I did eat more junk than usual I did a three day fast after. I'll probably do those twice a year or so.
