How do you guys find new brands and also know what brands and looks are becoming popular? I don't feel like keeping up with a bunch of celebrities I don't give a shit about just to see what they're wearing, but do care about the state of fashion and finding new places to shop and stuff. Any good websites or resources or something?
Pls respond

grailed and lurk on other fashion forums
Be educated. Browse runway catalogues. Read. Live in either NYC or Cali. Visit art galleries. Be invited to underground parties. Attend fashion shows. Read.
You must live it to be in the know. Otherwise you'll only be imitating lifestyles (trends) like the rest of the human population.

I think this is really less profound than you think it is. It isn't like there are two states of being ("in the know" and "imitating"). Thats a ridiculously dimwitted and smug idea. We all imitate things we like and respect. The idea you have of the person "in the know" is really just a person who is directly imitating the artists who create rather than imitating those artists second or third hand through others imitating them. And the artists themselves create from a collection of things and ideas which have already been, etc etc.
I follow Japanese fashion magazines
a few are known for focusing on emerging trends / brands
hypebeast isn't a bad place to check either. sometimes I learn about a brand, only to find out Hypebeast wrote about them 2 years earlier. they have so much information (and so much garbage) that it can be hard to decipher
