Just don't buy made in china if you're looking for quality. Almost ALL of it is garbage. Really you should only ever be buying Made in China if youre just starting off and you dont have any good basics yet, OR if you really really really like the design and no one else makes it.

As for recommendations, it really depends on what you want. For sneakers, made in USA or UK New Balances are always a good place to start. As for formal dress shoes, UK brands are good for conservative designs, and Continental brands are usually a little more 'out there'.

made in china materials aren't bad. Some high quality cottons come from china. The construction is the far bigger concern. Also it is worth noting, as I said at above, that almost all of made in china is garbage, but not absolutely everything. There are several tiers of factories with different construction standards.

Regarding where NBs are made though, I honestly never knew about the made in usa shoes being mostly made in china. The made in UKs that I own have already lasted me a lot longer than their vietnamese counterparts, although this is ultimately anecdotal. Do you have any sources that support your claim?

My shoes as a kid would last until I grew out of them, through wearing them every day running around in the forest and abusing them. My beat up sneakers from late teens stretches out and wore thin but served as lifting shoes for two years before finally giving in.

Every shoe I buy now lasts a year at most when worn every other day just for walking around the city. It's disgusting. At university when I was poor as fuck I just bought basic canvas plimsolls from the supermarket because buying a pair to last a semester was cheaper and lasted just as long.
