Hair frames the face, if having something other than short and easy haircuts makes your face look better you have a higher chance of being liked, loved, fucked, hired, promoted, influential, successful in anything you do etc.

It can also be used a kind of signal to other people for niche interests which can serve as a shortcut or boost to joining/being popular in a certain clique which you may want to do for any number of reasons not related to vanity or appearance.
