>shopping at second hand store
>pick up cheap scarf with nice pattern
>take it home, its a huge square
>google how to tie it
>find out it's apparantly some huge /fa/ faux pas
How do I fucking wear this thing? should I even bother?
Like the guy in your photo? I think it goes without saying that wearing a scarf for le fashion points is ridiculous. Is it cold? Do you need a scarf? If you answered yes to either of those questions, just tie it wherever you're cold

They were played out almost a decade ago by "hipsters" but, really, it's just a checker patterned scarf.
Make sure you don't have one with a politically affiliated color scheme unless you agree with what it represents.
Don't wrap it around your head or face.
Wear it like a normal scarf, don't get too concerned about wrapping it like it's "supposed" to be.
I was given a charcoal colored one as a gift from a friend and I've used it plenty. It'd be shame not to.

Wha? No, bruh. Are you thinking of Palestine scarves in particular, tied to look like a faggot who gives a shit about Gaza or something? Because tons of the really nice silk scarves are square, practically everything Hermés for instance.
If you want it to look more like a wool scarf in the tie you can fold/roll it on one diagonal like pic related, but really, don't sweat it. Do it if you think it'd look good.

It's a Persian carpet somebody cut a hole in, my dude
A literal rug

Funny you should say that, I once improvised a poncho like that out of a small old carpet because I was cold.
