anybody have experience with buying a german army flecktarn parka? There is two different ones, a post and pre 2005 and i'm wondering which one turns out better after you dye it black. Could someone help?
>>
Yeah I have both and I dyed them both
>>
>>11942691
The higher cotton blends dye better, they are also the older ones. I think there are actually 3 versions and the earliest early-mid 90s version dyes the best. I think the oldest ones have brass snaps instead of the plastic black ones. I dyed a recent one and it worked pretty well but there is definite brown tone which is okay for some but I fucking hate brown, I'm going to try it again with Dylon this time or track down an older one.
>>
>>11942760
How did you dye them?

Not that guy but I have a 80 cotton/20 poly one that I dyed and it's very very black. The pattern is completely gone except for a spot on the pocket that you can't even make out unless you look close under super bright light.
I (sort of) used the stovetop method with 2 packs of iDye and 2 of iDye poly. I say sort of because I boiled a bunch of water then put it in a 5 gallon bucket because I didn't have a pot big enough to actually do it on the stove. I used dye fixative in the wash afterward too.
>>
>>11942968
No. It's sized to be able to fit the liner underneath; besides, military clothing is oversized in general. Match the official size to your body measurements.
>>
>>11942989
Looks sort of brown in this pic but it's very black in person.
>>
>>11942968
I got mine to fit my size, chest circumferenfe qnd height, and as >>11942992 said; it leaves room for a liner or sweater under it.

>>11942989
Thanks for posting, been looking for experience with dyeing them.

>>
>>11943162
This is relevant to me, i need to re-dye my fav cap. I have really hard time finding a hat that matches my head structure. Im going crazy looking for a good cap, cant find one for my heda.
>>
>>11943162
Not him but I've seen people recommend dylon. There should be instructions on the box.
>>
Should I cop a parka if I'm 5'9" or just not even bother? serious question. Don't want to look like even more of a manlet.

>>11943162
Mine was done with Dylon machine dye. Just bung it in the washing machine with the dye, all the instructions are on the box.
Just make sure your parka is 80% cotton and 20% polyester, because if it's 100% or mostly, polyester it doesn't take the dye.
>>
>>11943218
Depends on your width. If your shape ain't some lolsquare or plain fat, a parka should still work.
BTW what's 5.9 in meters?
>>
Am europoor. Can only find my size on an us site. Is this thing worth the 30 buck shipping fee? Or does anyone know a good european site?
>>
>>11943259
I'll take what is Amazon for 100 alex
>>
>>11943355
Right. Thanks got one.
Am 6'0 and got it in large.
>>
>>11943259
Just go to an armyshop, It's probably cheaper there.
>>
>>11943259
there are several good sites in Germany to buy a Parka, but first you should deceide what you want: the old Parka (Olive/Grey) Original or Repro or the new Parka in spot camo.

I would suggest searching on Amazon.de and using the words BW or Bundeswehr Parka or Feldparka.
>>
>>11943449
Bought one from amazon uk. They didn't have the BW size system so hopefully a large fits.
>>
>>11943219

For the dylon, will I need their pre-dye and will just 1 box be enough?
>>
>>11942691
Just ordered a pre-2005 gr6 and will probably overdye it lightly. Will report back if this thread isn't dead by then.
I can't wait to be a meme.

How is the quality for this jacket?
-How warm (w/ & w/out liner)
-How well water/snow resistant is this thing

I like the style, but I don't know if it'l be a worthwhile winter jacket for me. The area I live in is 15 deg f to -30 deg f in the winter
>>
Is this suitable for dying
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00LUVS08W/ref=pd_aw_vtph_468_tr_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=R8H6NWSFW2NVC549VM2B

And is dying one of these the best/cheapest way to get this jacket style?
>>
>>11944765
I mean they're German military equipment. So they're probably meant to last. They're usually unlined so you can wear them with whatever layers you want or alone. At -30 I'm pretty sure this won't cut it even with a liner.

>>11944869
Yes but make sure to read the most helpful review to figure out your sizing.

Need some tips on dyeing my flecktarn parka. Primarily on how to dye it just enough for it to be black, but with the pattern showing as a slight gray. Really don't want it to be a complete black like posted earlier in thread. Pretty much just exactly like pic related.
>>
>>11944879
Looking for this too

I have one bottle of Rit at my disposal
>>
I'm 5'11 with 42" shoulders and 37" chest. I ordered a GR.12

Did I fuck up? Will it be too big? I ideally want it to fit like this >>11944879
>>
>>11944889
I'm also very skinny if that's relevant
>>
>>11944889
I'm too lazy too compare your stats and Gr numbers. These are cut oversized to allow for layering and liners. If you ordered TTS you'll probably get the look you want.

so does the flag patch resist dye or do you just stick some tape over it?
>>
>>11944908
It'll work in that it's a parka with flecktarn camo but it's not the same make as in your pic related. I don't know the material composition of this one either. If its heavy on synthetics you're going to have to use a dye made for that synthetic.

Depends on what your jacket's specific camo pattern looks like, there isn't a whole lot of consistency when it comes to flecktarn but pre-2005 patterns will generally look more aesthetic.

Post your parkas and I'll r8 your specific pattern.

>>
>>11945013
Will Gr. 7 really look that ridiculous on a 68" tall manlet? I want a serious answer
>>
>>11945014
It will be around 5 inches longer than a Gr. 1-5 I suppose. If it's already shipped then there's no use worrying about it. When it comes put it on and see how it looks. If you don't like it return it.
I feel like I shouldn't have to advise you guys on this stuff.
>>
>>11945019
Fuck, that actually sounds like it might look nice. I prefer parkas to at the very least cover my ass, but knee length can be pretty aesthetic.

Don't go for this parka if you're living in Germany. Super try hard. Maybe American asians can pull it off, but better just not try.

>>
>>11945439
If you want it all black then you need poly dye and cotton dye.
It needs to be boiled with the jacket in it.
Usually you can combine the two dyes in the same pot and get away with one process.

Its black. Id say in person its closer to this image >>11946784 but even then its a bit darker.

Without direct light on the jacket or looking very closely it looks black. The two images where it seems brown is because of the light and shitty contrast

I'm wondering how warm these parkas are without the liner? Looking to get a new winter jacket and i love the way this looks. Should i cop a liner to go with it? Winter means temps ranging from -5 to 10 degrees Celsius here in the Netherlands

If you wear the flag in Germany, the liberals of your country will think you're a Nazi. They're not like Americans where being proud of your nation is a good thing.

Either cut it and save it for when you leave Germany or just burn those little flags like a good German.

They just follow like sheeps because they're dissatisfied. I'll put two links below. Look what people are listening to his speech, do you see any young people?
Also notice the way he talks and how the crowd reacts to this.

Woah, I just saw this thread.

Tomorrow morning I have a lot of emails to catch up on, and the time to do it. Is that guy still around? If not I will find him in the email.

Pre-05 flecktarn is more vibrant than post-05.
The reason there is so much variance in the pre 05s, is that somtime in the 90s Germany suddenly had a HUGE demand for BDUs. (Possibly during the consolidation of East German and West German forces? I don’t really know why) Due to the demand, about 7-8 different companies made BDUs. They all got the construction 99% alike. The colors during the printing process? Not so much.
This flecktarn variance has been really bugging me the past three years, but sorting by the hue of the parka is way too big an undertaking.

This is a picture of a bunch of pre-05 parkas and how they can differ. When we get an order for a pre-05 parka, we start with the most normal looking ones, and then ship out the more unique colors last. First come first serve like.

They can either sit at the waist (thus the ties in the waist) or below the waist if you're in rough terrain
They're made to fit any kind of person, regardless of height, so they're very adjustable

I actually have a friend that has extensively been testing the dye with different damaged samples from our inventory. He has been keeping pretty thorough notes, and I plan to publicize a guide of sorts eventually.

>>11956737
I have worked with these damn things for long enough I can name the date range on a tag based on the physical appearance alone. When they moved from Brass to plastic buttons and what not. It really bothers me how devoid of detailed information the Internet is on old military uniforms and gear and some camo in general. I think it's because so much information was written down in books, and then forgotten everywhere else. Not enough of it moved to the Internet.

If you ever do get the wrong size or find something wrong with anything you order, I always want to hear it. I just finished working on most of the new orders for today. I'm moving to emails now.

>>11957387
My sizing chart should list the length of the front of the parka. From the top of the zipped zipper, to the bottom. Look at photos of people wearing the parka, and note where the parka ends in photos you like the fit of. Then measure from under your chin to that part of your own body.
>>

>>
To anyone who's interested:
I'm 5'11 with 42" shoulders and 37" chest, and I ordered a GR 12
I panicked when I realized it would probably be way too big, but it just came and it fits better than I ever could have hoped for. It's actually a really nice slim and long fit, it's almost androgynous/feminine

Very happy with it
>>
>>11958519
They are 3lbs of random Flecktarn items minus the parkas. Pants, Jackets, Gloves, ect. There is really only one or two defects per item, and they are normally pretty tame.

Broken Zipper, Broken Snap, Small tear.
Large scale damage is VERY rare.
I know for a fact the only parka with broken fabric has only a couple holes smaller than cigarette burns. It's mostly broken snaps and zippers.

I went to the local military shop today and tried on a few parkas. The smallest size they had was 8, which was too big for me (1,72m) and the one I'm wearing in the pic. The label was bleached out, so I don't know what size it is. Can someone help me with the fit?
Sorry for the quality and the angle might be a bit misleading, but I hope the proportions are still visible.

>mfw 6'4" and most milsurp jackets end up too short and if sized up get too baggy to get the length I want

These look absolutely perfect

Going to have to pick one up once I figure out these sizes

It's a genre of look just like any other. It can be done well just like any other.

>>11959726
Not fucking soon enough. I have been searching for those things for ages.

However, I am working on an order now for more dank Polizei stuff as I type this.

Is the bleached label parka the same hight as the Gr.8? if it is, it could be any size from 6-11. each parka will then vary in chest size. If you want a shorter parka you need to go for size 1-5, or bring that parka to a tailor.

I know I'm riding a really thin line by saying this, but I legitimately put more effort and info my sizing chart that 99% of what you will find from other retailers.

I'm not telling you to buy from me (plz mods no) but do check out my sizing chart in the description so you get the right fit. <3

>Is the bleached label parka the same hight as the Gr.8?
I don't remember that well, but I think it was a shorter. If I remember correctly, 8 went a tiny bit over my knees. But I'll check it again tomorrow.
I've measured my chest (87cm, no bully pls), so a Gr. 1 would fit me, right?
And is it possible to check the size of the parka by measuring the chest? Theoretically it should be possible, although I didn't find the acutal measurements of the parka itself anywhere.
>>
>>11961206
Yeah, if it was shorter, than it's a size 1-5.

You can definitely measure the parka to discover it's chest size. I have had to do this whenever I am sizing a parka that had a bleached tag.

The parkas are built with a chest circumference that is always 20cm wider than the recommended chest size. This means that a Gr.1 parka with recommended user chest size of 90cm, has a chest circumference of 110cm.
>>
>>11961246
Thanks for the info, I'll measure it tomorrow. But did you measure the chest side inside the parka or outside? I hope you understand what I mean.
>>
>>11961246
>>11961309
Oh, and you only sell from Gr.6, right?
>>
>>11961309
I've always roughly measured outside the parka. The chest sizes stack in increments of 5cm, so you have some room for error.

>>11961338
Currently, yes. It's very sad.

But good news. I'm ordering more Fleck parkas and Parka liners today for black Friday. I'm pretty confident I will get some sizes below 6.

I just did a normal cycle and nothing bad happened

You should however use the coldest water you can in the wash

Thanks Ivan.

Anyone has experience dyeing the parka with Simplicol? Not sure if I should get Simplicol 1511 or Dylon Velvet Black. From the content of this thread, I'd need 2 packages of Velvet Black, so I think I'd need the same amount of Simplicol.

I just remembered.
I've always wanted to try dyeing a tropentarn parka OD. It looks pretty sweet and it's hard to find any more other than this picture. I might get my dye guy working on it for the guide.

SOON(TM)

"SOON"(TM) is a official trademark of Nugget Enterprises LLP*

But actually, I have no ETA at this moment. It's just one out of many projects under development.

Possibly even a future product series or service in support of the lazy and squeamish.

I am this poster, and this is the parka I dyed in a front load washer.

I used Dylon black in the largest packet available on Amazon. I followed the instructions to dump the packet and 500g of salt into the washer bin with the damp parka. I actually didn't have enough salt so at most I had 400g salt of 300g at worst. Put it on delicates and warm (40 degrees celsius). Did second wash with detergent as instructed. Judge it freely m8s
>>
>>11961954
wanna link me to that dye?
>>
>>11961954
Did you have to mix the dye with filled water alone first, or did you dump everything in together? My washer doesn't have a fill setting, so I'd have to do it the former way.
>>
>>11961954
Also, I'm a little confused. Did you really use your washing machine to dye the jacket? Wouldn't that make the next loads of laundry black?
>>
>>11961954
Looks kinda blue but that might be the light.

>>11961971
No but if you're concerned run it with detergent and bleach empty.
>>
>>11961970
Is the former way just using a bucket? Also which way is more efficient, the bucket with boiling water, dye and salt or the washing machine.

>>11961975
w2c dye, plz give link or the size

Haven't actually received any of the parkas I bought yet. Once I get them in I'll try different methods with each and report back.

Dylon is a powder dye so I literally dumped it all on top of the salt and threw the parka on top of my best salt pile
