So, BHA vs AHA: anyone have thoughts on this?
>>
>>11802346
I found that my diet effected how common they filled/ how big and frequent. Stay away from dairy.
>>
WTF HOW DO I GET RID OF BAD RAZOR BURN HELP
>>
BEFORE ANYONE ASKS:

You get rid of blackheads by cleaning your face daily and using a salicylic acid/BHA exfoliating toner, or one with AHA. Clay masks can also help. You can extract blackheads by using a "comedo extractor".

And no, not all blackheads are actually "sebaceous filaments" - but some are. Those are most common on and around the nose. The content of them are grey/brown and are soft when you squeeze them. You can still have blackheads on the nose, too. The filaments can't be removed permanently but can be lightened and made smaller by using cleansers and exfoliators.
>>
>>11802716
BHA for deeper skin issues.
AHA for surface skin issues.

There's no reason why you can't use both.

>>11802724
This. Diet is incredibly important.

the skin above my upper lip is always red and is kinda flaky?
like, my lips themselves aren't even especially dry it's just the skin around them
it might be eczema or something idk
should i exfoliate it? it'd get rid of the dead skin but i'm scared it would just irritate it further/make it more red and sensitive
pls give me product/routine recs to try and fix this. right now i use cerave cream on them anytime i remember to and vaseline before i go to bed but it's still here.

A key reason to why many people are a bit confused about this is because sebaceous filaments are structures (made out of oil and dead skin cells) in the pores that later can accumulate more dead skin cells and bacteria and turn into blackheads/acne. It's a sliding scale. Pic related shows some obvious blackheads (red), as well as some areas featuring mainly just ordinary pores (blue).

The surface of the blackheads (open comedones) are generally larger than the standard sebaceous filaments. The sebaceous filaments are simply the somewhat dark small pricks that you can see on your nose. The blackheads are generally darker than the sebaceous filaments.

The area around the blackheads can be higher than the surrounding skin - this is because the pores are filled up with gunk and are getting much bigger than they're supposed to be. You can almost always feel them with your fingertips.

Sebaceous filaments are generally much softer and lighter than blackheads. Blackheads tend to be harder and rounder, even though they can be longer as well. Older and bigger blackheads can often be more round.

The blackheads in the image, for example, are ready for extraction and then chemical treatment. The holes they were in should then get smaller and lighter in color. It's absolutely possible to extract sebaceous filaments as well - it's just that you may irritate and hurt the skin too much - and the SFs will recur (albeit somewhat smaller & lighter at first).

Three weeks ago, I attended a birthday brunch for a friend's birthday with all sorts of greasy food and unlimited mimosas and sangrias. Skin became shit the next few days with horrible breakouts and I am only now recovering after eating clean, drinking a ton of water, and spot treating with benzoyl peroxide.

Anyone experience similar due to alcohol/greasy fried food/too much sugar? Unhealthy lifestyle, never again.
>>
>>11803396
Is it safe to remove blackheads using a comedone extractor, or is it better to just let BHAs handle it?
>>
>>11803396
That explains it.
Most of the dots on my nose all appear to be about the same size, and they're all just kind of gray or brown -- nothing's really black, there, so I would guess that I don't have any blackheads. I guess what really stands out about them is that they're only on my nose (the whole thing) with a smattering on my upper cheeks. There are no pores that look like that on my forehead.
>>
Here's what I've been using the last 3 weeks. Haven't noticed a difference. Are these products shit?
I don't have cystic acne just light break outs and checks get reddish time to time. Somewhat oily skin.
>>
>>11803425
If you're doing it the right way, yes.
Check the FAQ for instructions.

Lighter chemical exfoliation isn't that effective at actually removing bigger blackheads - it's better at preventing them from being formed.

>they're only on my nose (the whole thing) with a smattering on my upper cheeks

However, when I dont drink enough water or drink/eat foods with lactose, acne pops up to say hello. Which is strange because I havent figured out yet what kind breaks me out exactly.

I recently noticed these flesh/white colored bumps along JUST the left side of my cheek in certain lighting, it's really weird. I know they're filled with pus because all it takes is a gentle squeeze to get rid of them but I heard that this only causes more. I think it may be millia. I recently started using PC APA 8 percent exfoliator and her moisturizer with retinol in it, along with some rosehip oil some nights. I use Cerave face wash and sometimes do a clay mask. Am I exfoliating too much? I'll dry brush/wet brush in the shower too. I never had this before and I can't pinpoint exactly what I'm doing differently. I don't wear make-up except for going out which I doubt is causing it. I don't consume dairy either. As for the rest of my skin I don't have acne at all other than the occasional pimple or two (aside from these fucking lil white bumps). I have normal skin too. I do kind of touch at my face sometimes, would that be enough to cause it?

I have never done anything for my skin besides conveniently using one of the bars of soap recommended in the FAQ and using a face lotion with SPF 15 sunscreen when it's sunny. My diet is largely healthy, though I do have dairy (not in huge quantities though). I drink water like a fish and get enough sleep, and, looking at my parents, have pretty good skin genetics.

I am still young though-- early 20s. Anything I should start doing now to avoid wrinkles or does that rely on me sticking to sunscreen? I use the same face lotion with SPF my mom uses and she has no wrinkles whatsoever and is 53. Sorry for the noob questions and if it was answered in FAQ.

The pH of your skin determines how oily/dry itll be, as well as how effective the concentrations of BHAs and AHAs will be.
Staying hydrated is important, and so is a balanced diet, but theres not a super strong correlation between the amount of hydration and how well your skin will be. One can drink 8 cups per day and still have dry/ flaky skin.

>Suggestions for getting smooth, almost glowing legs

as for smoothness: shaving/waxing, moisturizing.

as for the glow: different carotenoids, a regular tan, a spray tan, melanotan-II, a thick and oily moisturizer.

when it comes to the DE razor, the most common causes of razor bumps are:
- too sharp razor blades
- going against the grain
- pressing to hard
- not using enough shaving foam + water, allowing the area to remain slippery and nice.

ingrown hairs can be dealt with using a sharp nail + pincer.

>>11803022
nice dubs.

>looking at a picture from a year ago I had relatively clear skin which makes me want to throw it all away

it seems to me like your skin would possibly benefit from being exposed to fewer products, and it would also be a chance for you to learn a bit more about the natural state of your skin and what works and what doesn't.

in your pic you seem to have a few blackheads, coupled with local redness. that could just be some irritation due to some products (such as BP). if I were you I would just try scaling down on cleansers and BP due to the possible irritation they can cause, and possibly even moisturizers since some of them can cause clogged pores and breakouts, just to see what happens and then take it from there.

Same here. If you're unlucky it might look worse than before in the first months, but it's supposed to clear up completely in the end. You will have super smooth skin and shit. There will be dryness, use lotion and face moisturizer, lip balm and all that stuff. Drink tons and take the pills with a fatty meal if possible. I started a treatment with a shitty derm who didn't explain anything to me before. I stopped taking the pills then, because i was scared of possible side effects. Just read up on them yourself and don't be too worried, blood tests will show if somethings wrong and i guess you will know theres a problem if your ass starts bleeding.

how noticeable it will be depends on your pigmentation, but it seems like your skin will "glow" in a more golden way that appears more healthy / attractive

Do you guys ever go to beauticians? The kind who extract blackheads etc.

I live in a country with long winters and almost everyone suffers from D-vitamin deficiency. Would it be a good idea to go to a tanning salon 1-2 times every month to get some sun?

Don't really have pictures because they are hard to see with a camera.

I don't get acne a lot, but when I do I get these slowly forming hard lumps around my chin/jaw area that slowly grow in size and become painful as fuck. They usually are invisible, but obvious when you feel the hard area. They usually last a week or so before getting very red and eventually coming to a nasty head.

What are these and how do I treat them? They seem pretty deep in the skin.
>>

Noobie here.
My nose is covered with sebaceous filaments, not black heads, I'm pretty sure. Although, if I get closer to the mirror, some days they are really light and if I try to extract, it looks like puss?

Either way, if I use an AHA on my nose, will this reduce my sebaceous filaments or make them less noticeable? Also is there recommended AHA to use.

I started to use African black soap and stridex pads on my face. Before doing this, I would have largish pustules that would show up and be mostly just pus, but now they're small and filled with either this really soft crap that comes out as a really long string if popped, or this really hard crap that comes out as one lump that looks like a really small grain of rice almost.

How do I get rid of these? I'm mostly concerned with the later ones, since they are more irritating.

I have booked mine. I've had it since my teens and I'm fucking 26 now. It hasn't been bad enough to be a huge deal, but I've had a new pimple every week for as long as I can remember. I've used literally every over the counter product in every strength known to fucking man and nothing has solved it and it's something I research and look into nearly every fucking day. I plan on doing a cycle of accutane, I've done one before, acne symptoms became more mild after but it was also an awful time (very dry, can't drink alcohol. seriously do not fucking drink).

But yeah if no over the counter shit or diet changes have ever truly worked for you, it's probably hormonal/genetic and needs to be dealt with otherwise.
>>

What you want is hydrocolloid/blister bandages. Helps absorb that nasty pus rather than have it crust over. Pop them at night and throw a bandage on and they typically have healed internally throughout the night for the most part.

Hi

I don't have a routine, I used to but stopped as spots cleared up. I now have some remnants of spots and it's annoying. This is a picture of them in lighting where they really strongly show up but usually they aren't that noticeable. But I want smooth skin desu. I'm also looking for some kind of routine and general advice specific to my face

>>
>>11827319
Those are closed and open comedones, they can get inflamed and form pimples.

The best way to treat them is with cutaneous retinoids.
>>
>>11824696
I assume you already use an anti-dandruff shampoo. If not, you should try that.

You can also try an oil with salicylic acid to loosen the flakes
>>
>>11827839
Post a picture. If it's bad you probably need systemic retinoids or antibiotics

I actually just got over my issues with those. I had a ton on the side of my chin and it was really bugging me.

I applied a mixture of Tea Tree Oil and Sweet Almond Oil and then stirred a Q-tip around the mixture before placing it on them for about 10 seconds each. They came to a head, I thew on a hydrocolloid patch, and voila -- clear skin.

My skin gets really shiny, but it's not really oily, just shiny... what to do?
>>
I have really oily skin, usually I have a prescription treatment, but I've been trying to get off of it, and it seems like the breakouts are just getting worse, so I'm looking to get into an actual routine...

Usually I just use cetaphil oil control cleanser, paula's choice clear 2.5% benzoyl peroxide, and then cetaphil oil control moisturizer.

I've been looking around at youtube reviews, and this stood out to me:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Es8Fa9JcY1A

Is this routine worth following, or is she just selling shit?

Any tips?

Adapalene is a good choice, its effective and with less irritation than other retinoids. You can also get it as a combination with benzoyl peroxide to reduce the inflamed pimples.

I dont know where you live, but a gel with 0,1% or 0,3% adapalene in combination with 2,5% benzoyl peroxide may be available OTC? Otherwise, ask for a prescription.

Adapalene and other retinoids should be applied once daily, preferably before bed. Wash your face with an exfoliating and mild wash, let it dry and apply the gel. Also wash your face in the morning.

Your skin may get red, irritated and dry, but it's worth it. Use a moisturizer during the day. The retinoids will make your skin sensitive to sun, so don't use it during the day. If you're in a sunny area, use a sun block.

Guys, I got two questions.

What is a gentle cleanser that doesn't dry the skin, while still cleansing very well? I'm in France.

Second, how to actually exfoliate well, and should we do it everyday?

Contribute or dont post at all, you useless cunt

>>11831270
Vichy's Normaderm series, La Roche-Posay's Effaclar series and Avène's Cleanance series are all for acne-skin. I think they are all french and you shouldn't have a problem with finding a product. Vichy's Normaderm is the best out of those imo.

These products are for acne-skin and they WILL make your skin dry. You need to use a moisturizer, there is no other way.

The series above all have a cleanser, and the cleanser will exfoliate your skin. Exfoliating means removing dead skin cells and other shit from your face. Not all soaps exfoliate, but in the acne-series, they all do.
Do it twice a day, once in the morning and once before bed.

1. Cleanser
Let the skin dry
2. Acne product
Let the skin dry
3. Moisturizer

You can choose to not use acne product if you wish, but I obviously dont recommend it

apply with cotton pad and leave it on to dry, no need to wash it off
do it before moisturizing though so it penetrates the skin
