I'm trying to find a pic from a ~08/09 issue of Popeye but I don't remember anything except what the clothes looked like
dudes were wearing full-length forest green robes with roulette and blackjack table designs screenprinted on the back

But yes, it's mostly the material. Some thinner and looser weaved tees will show through way more than heavier fabric. Just buy thicker tees, or wear an undershirt if necessary if it bothers you.
