>what's the appeal in this
Context. Very little art is simply "pretty".

Read Malevich's writing or something on Suprematism to understand what he was engaging with. It's an attempt to develop non-objective art. It's usually understood to be seen an attempt at the universal & infinite but people forget that the OP's much more famous companion was exhibited in the upper corner of a room, where a russian cross would normally be long - in other words, positioned as a divine icon.

>>11390676
kek. I don't get why normalfags hold their ignorance as a mark of honor. you've the internet, there's really no excuse to be so uneducated.

it's actually funny that malevich is the topic. there's an anecdote that goes how the avantgarde pushed for works like his black square to be exhibited to the greater public, as they wanted art to be universal, appealing to all humanity, not simply the upper class. but the insecure petite bougies and stupid working class figured it was just the rich playing some sick joke on them, and refused to accept that this was serious art. they cried "my kid could do that!" and "emperor's new clothes!" etc.

in the end, it was their own pretentiousness that lost them art - ironically telling themselves it was lost to pretentiousness. fucking retards. when will they learn?

>>11390793
Look man, there's always a risk of being either too pretentious or too banal and I'd much rather be pretentious.

Being open minded about what art has to offer is a good trait to have.

Sitting there pouting and trying to draw lines around what is legitimate and what is illegitimate is really childish.

op here, in addition to what >>11390747 said, read Mondrian (the guy who made >>11390429). here's an excerpt i like:
>You will agree that if two words are sung with the same strength with the same emphasis, each weakens the other. One cannot express both natural appearance as we see it and plastic relationships, with the same determinateness. In naturalistic form, in naturalistic color and in naturalistic line, plastic relationships are veiled. To be plastically expressed determinately, relationships can be represented only through color and linein themselves. In the capriciousness of nature, form and color are weakened by curvature and by the corporeality of things. To give the means of expression of painting their full value in my earlier work, I increasingly allowed color and line to speak for themselves.

anon above gives a great explanation of the social function of abstract art (appeal to the experiences of everyone) and the above link goes into more theoretical aspects of how an artist ought to represent a work

Buy a couple of litho blocks.

Buy ink in correct colors. Maybe get screen printing ink instead of block ink.

Buy nice paper.

Carefully use your blocks to print.

Wow that was easy.

(This shit is easy when someone already created the concept for you.)

Yeah probably, this part especially:
>Context. Very little art is simply "pretty".
I knew it was typing it but I was too lazy to put in the effort to reword it. it's not even true really, it implies that critical content takes precedence, when it's really distinguishing 'beauty' from simple 'prettiness', acknowledging that content is a factor in that beauty (ie knowing the narrative behind a painting contributes to understanding it, but you don't need it to feel its emotion).

also seeing it in person is relevant. they're paintings, not digital drawings - I've not seen anything but malevich's sketches in person but the brushstrokes in black square are brought up in every commentary on it, if it's anything like rothko, i can see how it's relevance.

I'm surprised 4 separate anons defended me for being a pretentious cunt. that's never happened before. pretentious & cunt is pretty on the mark, though don't conflate smugness and wrongness, pleb

Printing out high art is like having a laminated version of the Mona Lisa on your kitchen counter.

Its kitsch bruv, don't do it.

Pay someone to reproduce it. Its not like it hard.
>>
>>11390417
>>11390417
You can paint that on your own for cheaper, it's two fucking squares, probably one of Malevich's works. It's abstract art.

>>11390421
Bruh, were you in my art class? I took an abstraction class and learnt all about these artists.

I agree with the way you described the boogies and the working class. You know, I hate both the bourgeois and the working class. They have similar mentalities.
>>
>>11392519

>>
>>11394001
Damn I love that painting too. Something about the nice blend of soft greys, Browns and whites mixed with the many curves of the painting makes it a soft and comforting scene. Probably the only image of fat people I like.
>>
>>11394850
probably not m8. i discovered this via the internet and these are famous works in abstract art

>>11394870
great painting definitely. color really makes the subject look a lot fatter than they really are
>>
>>11394850
>You can paint that on your own for cheaper
god dont tell people to do that

if someone sees it and they know Malevich, its going to look more kitsch poorly painted by some random anon than if you had a print. and if they don't know Malevich, they probably wont care that its a print
>>
>>11395609
They literally can make their own though. It relates to how Malevich was trying to make art more available for the working class.

It really isn't hard to paint a few squares at all. A little practice can get the freehand right, else a stencil or screen print works too.
>>
>>11395754
but that painting is a century old, anon could never paint an accurate reproduction unless he happens to be a professional. its just going to look like a cheap copy

if youre going to paint something yourself because its easy, might as well make your own abstract composition (more fun too)
