It doesn't matter that a fit might look marginally better with shoes, it's about breaking the rules that say socks and sandals absolutely cannot work. If you took wore fedora and made it work somehow given the connotations associated with them you would be doing more for fashion than just copy pasting a safe 10/10 look.
