In the US Stans aren't really that popular, they maybe have like 2 or 3 different pairs at the back of the shoe stores here while Superstars are in the very front with a million pairs

Superstars (like Stans) were an incredibly popular shoe, though - among a wide variety of people. If you would limit it to that one specific demographic that you remember from your own experiences, then you're really going to limit yourself. Someone who is interested in fashion should avoid limiting oneself; it's best to look at things in as broad of a manner possible.

I hate how the toecap design on GATs make the shoe look so comically long. Personally, I don't understand why /fa/ likes them so much.

Stans look comically long as well, IMO. This is why I prefer Superstars - the slightly clunkier design, along with the stripes (even if the stripes are all-white as well) make the proportions look more balanced.
