've been thinking of getting a few waistcoats for business and smart casual wear. Any helpful suggestions, advice on what to look out for, etc?

I have a better question; Is there a legitimate reason as to why /fa/ hates waistcoats?

Bonus points if you can actually make a solid argument.

Demerits for meme use.

Waistcoats aren't smart casual bruh. They're not casual at all. They're the opposite of casual. They are to casual, what motorbikes are to four wheeled vehicles.

You need four pockets, short body length, long points on the front that are at an acute angle (not right angle, it looks dumb, and having the bottom be cut straight across is not generally a good idea), high armholes, and natural fabrics. You also need to be wearing high waisted pants. Long waistcoats to cover low rise look really stupid and fuck up your proportions. Sharp angles on the placket also look stupid.

/fa/ hates them because there are a LOT of really stupid looking waistcoats around (see pic). It's really difficult to get ones with a flattering cut, and you can't wear them with jeans. They're not very versatile unless you wear suits or sportcoats often.

Waistcoats are basically the torso's equivalent to a fedora.

less so, though

fedoras can look great if they are the right shape but are uncommon enough to be costumewear, vests are common enough to be considered actual clothes by the general population

still doesn't save the people wearing hideous ones though
