most of the people who try it don't do anything more than buy oversized cheaper alternatives to the better pieces. they don't try to make sure they're the right shape or size for the look, or do their hair or anything else to match the aesthetic. he fell for it because he thought he could pull off the look without truly trying.
as for Y-3 Warriors, good luck ever copping a pair. there's one on grailed but it's not one you could really use for lunar stuff.
