What strap do you have?

I'm considering putting a NATO on mine
>>
>>10900983
>>10901037
Thank you, it's pretty beat up - you can see lots of scratches on the aluminum bezel, some deep gouges on the bezel and oyster bracelet. Still, it's basically the first nice watch I've ever gotten.

I'm very pleased that it's the older sort of Submariner, actually, the crown guards are about half as thick as you can see in the picture.

Still looking for more advice about NATO straps and possibly removing the cyclops, I hear the latter is heresy for Rolexes.
>>
>>10901144
Nice Sub! Love the Holes Case probably either a 16800 or early 16610! I wouldn't remove the cyclops! If you do not want one but still want a date get a Sea-Dweller or if you prefer no date then a 114060 would be perfect and it would be ceramic and have glide lock etc. Has it ever been serviced? If it has not I would go to your nearest AD or service center and send it in ASAP! Rolex always calls about price before they ever work on the watch. It will come back all minty and running like a champ. As far as a strap change the sky's the limit! 20 MM lug width everyone makes straps for these things!. Good luck!

Just look on eBay for the following Soviet/Russian brands: Poljot, Raketa, Pobeda, Vostok, Chaika, Luch, Slava...
There are lots of different styles with a lot of history and incredibly good movements for a really cheap price. OP's watch is a really special model because it has a unique 24 hour movement, as you can see the dial has 24 indexes instead of 12, this watch was designed for Arctic explorers or submarine crew that couldn't really tell if it's am or pm in their environments.

I'm not home to see it in person, but my Big Zero finally arrived and I have a photo of it. How did I do?

I'm pretty sure both of the straps that came with it are probably going to be garbage, so what should I replace them with? I think the brown leather with white stitching actually looks pretty good so I might just get something that looks exactly like that but from Hirsch or Crown and Buckle. I'm open to other suggestions, though. Maybe some sort of two-piece cloth strap in brown or olive green?

I got an explorer ii when I was 22. Fact of the matter is, very few people are into watches and will actually notice. Wear it, get it pressure tested every year, and get it serviced every five years.

I paid 30€ for it, one of the best watch bargains you can get on eBay, you just need to be lucky and find a model in good condition.
I love how slim and simple it looks and the movement is god tier, incredibly accurate. It sounds really nice and the fact the dial says "Made in USSR" adds a really cool history factor. Here's a better picture, I'm wearing it right now.

First time posting on /fa/'s watch thread.

Seems to be a lot slower in comparison to /g/.
>>
>>10910942
The last couple of threads became really slow for some reason.
>>
>>10911010
I guess it's a lot more friendly here.

How quickly do you get called over on your dogshit here?

>How quickly do you get called over on your dogshit here?
if you have a fashion watch or some markted "luxury minimalist watch" that charges $300 for a $10 chinese movement, pretty fast
>>

/g/ has this weird hive mind effect where they fetishze some real stupid shit
>>
>>10911164
So basically the same as /g/'s watchthread, don't post overpriced dogshit and you'll be fine.

Being one that jump started a couple of memes there i could say it's more or less right.

Then again i don't really follow the hivemind in most cases (Didn't fall for the Penisquartz and Bagel memes), i just buy what i like.

Super slow thread though. Are all the Americans still asleep?
>>
>>10902115
Nah I picked it up off a guy called 10amagri. It shipped from the Ukraine but got here (The UK) pretty quick. Everything seems original as far as I can tell apart from the straps, haven't looked inside though.

>>10909495
I prefer white personally but black does go for cheaper so you should get a better deal, good luck.

>>10909602
Olive and black NATO looks good on mine, as does black leather. I think the face is good enough to fit most straps.
>>
>>10910728
does look really good but that seems expensive. then again I have no knowledge of that watch :)

thoughts on this Casio?
do you think the bezel makes it look like a watch only old men would wear?

only other thing I'm worried about is the size of this crown because I'm left-handed and wear watches on my right wrist so I don't want that crown to be huge and cut into my arm or something.
>>
>>10914665
I'm generally not a big fan of fluted or engine turned bezels but that one actually looks pretty subdued and nice. I think it's actually pretty nice and I assume it's cheap too but it doesn't look super cheap and plasticky like a lot of Casios.

I have the tiniest and most skelly wrists in town.
Inherited this from my grandfather. It's 18k gold so I don't wear it every day but... You can probably cop one for a few hundred ÂŁ. The face of the clock is only 3cm, and it's really slim.

Definitely do not remove the cyclops, you will never ever be able to resell it properly. I think NATOs look fine desu, and you could keep the bracelet from further damage.
>>
>>10901144
A few scratches make the watch look tough, with a history behind. Remove the bracelet and the Cyclops and you turn a piece of art into a new rich piece of shot, like a rapper with a watch full of counterfeit diamonds. Keep the watch as it is, believe me.
>>
>>10915406
thanks for the input, anon.
I think about getting it. yeah, it's cheap and looks good. it's only 40 bucks anyway. the only thing I don't like that much is that the case is apparently made out of brass (which I don't like as much as steel or titanium) but the caseback is stainless steel at least. so I don't know if brass become disgusting or corroded or something due to sweat or whatever acids.

>>
>>10923930
the looks aren't the problem.
the loud ticking is. not a fan of black dials either but it's a taste thing. at least it has indiglo but a date window wouldn't hurt. case looks simple and nice but that strap probably sucks. leather > nato strap.
>>
>>10924069
ugh its loud? that's bad but i do like the strap
>>
>>10924091
>ugh its loud?

very. Timex watches unless it's chronographs and digitals are fucking ticking loudly and it's annoying. same thing with swatches.

if you like the strap you could still find any other watch you like and just buy an additional black nato strap and put that on instead. it's a good strap investment anyways and goes with everything if you buy a few more watches in the future.
>>
>>10924098

yeah, look for watches japanese movements like seiko/pulsar/lorus, casio or citizen/miyota movements because they are usually less loud.

SARB looks good in black or white but I think the white SARX looks awful, the black one is so much better. They're both good watches though. Get the SARB if you want something very low-key or the SARX if you want something a bit bigger and more flashy.

>>

the worn look on the aluminum bezel gives it character imo just like wearing raw denim until you put your own fade on it or a nice tan leather darkened by use. I would wear it as is and continue to develop the character. Honestly if i had a nice watch like that i'd be too pussy to wear it out but it looks good on you *thumbs up*

I don't think a nato strap would look out of place. I actually wear my dive watch with a nato because i feel like the SS bracelet is too flashy for the clothes i usually wear.

Pretty much like the german watches pre-nazi era and just post nazi era.

Watch development didn't really progress in that decade.

Just a whole bunch of german brands were seized by the GDR govt and forced to amalgamate into a soviet compound mess.

You want a nazi watch so bad buy some cheap chinese piece of shit, remove the crystal and paint a swastika on it.

There's you nazi era watch.
