Best matte black nail polishes? Keep it Target or drugstore-tier since I'm just experimenting with the idea
>>

Wasn't loving the prospect of a pastel filled Spring but the new YSL limited editions have changed my mind. Peace Green is nice as fuck.
Nice is that kind of green only blew up a few years ago with Chanel Jade so I can't see it hitting cult status which means I'll be able to find it being resold a non-astronomical prices in a few months.

Picked up Illamasqua pink raindrops this week though and remembered pale pinks wash me out so I'll be staying off the pink one of these.

Love this but it's sold out. Is there a similar nail polish?
>>
>>10893455
All 6712 of them.

Tbh painted nails on dudes is the trend of 2016 screenshot this. All those youth fags do it or have - Ian Connor and Luka and those other soho losers. Plus jaden smith with his spot in the LV women's campaign, androgyny and cross dressing is gonna continue to grow in the high fashion world, starting with painted nails

It's similar to Revlon Italian Leather.

I've got both and Facet has a bit of a stronger gold micros hummer running through it but IL is the most similar I've seen, plus it smells amazing.

Obviously the wear time isn't as good and the opacity is a little different - Facet is a little more sheer and layerable with itself and other colours whereas IL is quite opaque. There's also a more pewter to lilac tone to Facet where IL leans more green, but it's still closer than any other I've seen.
>>

Microshimmer*
>>
>>10893493
Neat. I like the tint too, green is my favorite color.
>>
>>10893487
>androgyny and cross dressing is gonna continue to grow in the high fashion world

yesss
>>
>>10893503
Yeah it's a good polish it its own right, though all of the revlon parfumerie range seem to be victim to excessive tip wear so just be aware of that and that it helps to wrap the top coat to prevent it.
>>
>>10893487
guys painting their nails used to be more common than it is now

One of my obsessions, at this moment have around 1500 bottles.
I'm strangely drawn to guys who feel comfortable wearing nail polish.

So you is goth then innit.
>>
>>10896684

Are you assuming I meant black nail polish?
>>
>>10896716
I have rarely seen guys wear any other colour
>>
>>10896135
I realised I've never counted mine and now I'm curious how many I have.

I only have what I considered my very pared down essentials because my whole collection is too heavy to carry to and from my uni town to my home town, and I just counted that up and it's 44.

Which is about 1/8 of my whole collection, which puts my whole at about 350 and me at jealous of your 1500.
>>
>>10892955
can we also discuss:
nail length
acrylic nails
bare natural nails
nail shape (square, round, coffin, pointed, etc)
nail art (glitter, french tips, gradients, etc.)
>>
>>10893234
are neon colors effay?
>>
>>10896951

>nail length
I prefer shorter for practicalities sake - I do a lot of work which requires hands on delicate touches, so long nails are a hazard. But as long as it suits your hands do whatever.

>acrylic nails
For the love of god don't let them grow out. Nothing horrifies me more than acrylic or gel nails growing out and leaving that horrid gap at the bottom.

>bare natural nails
I don't really think much of it really. It's the default.

>nail shape (square, round, coffin, pointed, etc)
I like the look of sqouvals but the rounded corners frustrate me no end when it try them myself. I'm not a fan of this ballerina shape that's supposed to be the new thing.

>nail art (glitter, french tips, gradients, etc.)
If you're going to do it, do it well. I hate all the wonky chunky lined nail arts you see on the internet. It just looks bad.
Gradient nails are 2011 in a nutshell, French tips are porn nails.

I'd love to, but I'm Yuropoor.
>>10896951
I am absolutely crazy about coffin shapes. I've been wanting to get acrylic nails but I'm scared I'll end up with a bad artist. My hairdresser has gorgeous nails, maybe I'll ask her where she gets them done.
Also: acrylic vs gel opinions?

Whereabouts? I'm in the UK and Essie is stocked in every Boots.

But if it's not where you are then Kiko 217 might work.

Loreal do one as well but the name escapes me right now.
>>
>>10896790

I'd do terrible things to a man with glittery nails.

>>10896907

Pretty decent! Have you ventured into indies yet?
>>
>>10897089
Only the bigger name sides like A England and Serum No5. The problem I find with a lot of indies is that everything has chunky glitter in it, and that's not what I want at all.
If there's any you recommend that do solid colours or holos I'd be interested in hearing them though
>>
>>10897103

Where are you from? Check out ILNP, they're available on their website and a few retailers.
>>
>>10897151
I admit I was a bit scared off ilnp after the data breach last year and hadn't thought of the brand since, might have to think about ordering again now that'll all be sorted out. Some of the pink holos are so nice.

Though I'm in the UK so I'd have to check shipping/uk stockists first.
>>
>>10897175

Oh yeah, completely forgot about that.
Bought from her directly about a month ago, but shipping is too expensive if you're only getting a few - 18 dollars for 5 bottles (I'm in the UK too).
You can get them from Rainbow Connection, they have loads of other brands too.

Harlow & Co is a retailer in Canada, 1 CAD is only £0.50, which is nice.
>>
>>10897231
Oh nice thanks, that's useful to know
>>
>>10897027
there's not very much of a difference once you get past the application process. Gel is shinier than acrylic but acrylic is stronger so what many places do is use a gel topcoat over the acrylic. gels can be thinner than acrylics too depending on if you get a hard or soft gel, but soft gels cant give you any more length than you have with your natural nails.
both if done improperly can be damaging to your natural nail, along with lots of other scary health related things.(google is free FYI)
just go to a good nail tech and tell them what you want and ask them what they think is better for you.
>>
Always paint your toenails, even if it's just with a shiny top coat, if you're gonna wear open toed shoes. That's all I know :\
Should I be wearing nail polish? Is it considered more fashionable than bare nails?
>>
lets talk tools as well
>recently got the Revlon gold series items
Also, the nail boards with 4 sides, how the fuck do you use them?
It says use side 1 but all it does is destroy my nails.
>>
>>10896951
Nails should be kept short.
>>
>>10898066
usually the first few sides are for filing and shaping the free edge not the entire nail plate lol
>>
can the messy/ smudged/ splotchy nail polish look good?
>>
>>10898365
no
>>
>>10897027

Essie is fucking everywhere man. I'm a Finn and you can get it in all bigger suppermarkets
>>

As long as they are not vulture talon long

>>10899938
Clearly you're just not alpha enough to appreciate male polish.
>>
only if you have long hair and are at a meal concert
>>
>>10901570
or if you are going to have sex with a cute gay/bisex dude or girls with a fetish for good nails.

>>10900613
depends on hands. on skinny hands semi-longish nails look best.

Let's get some more discussion going.

Favourite individual polishes?
Favourite brands?
What are you wearing right now?
White whales?
For me it's
>Favourite polishes: Topshop Country Bumpkin and Illamasqua Milf.
The first I got as a gift years ago and has just become a staple. Surprisingly smooth and creamy, self levels like a bitch and somehow manages to disguise bad cuticle days perfectly. Has an almost translucent quality but doesn't show nail lines. The second isn't necessarily unique, though it doesn't have the annoying minty edge a lot of colours similar have but the formula is such a dream and I never turn down a pale green.
>Favourite brands: Illamasqua and A England.
I'm addicted to Illamasqua polishes they're my vice and the only cosmetic that will get me to drop £14.50 as an impulse so I have to try to tone it down. With the exception of load and pink raindrops, I haven't yet tried one of their polishes that isn't long lasting, self levelling, creamy and just generally excellent. And load is still the best white/off white I own. The only problem is I lent most of them to my mum because she's as addicted as me and depressed at the moment so I haven't got access to most right now. A England because I'm a sucker for good marketing and I went through an all holographic nails all the time phase about a year ago and every time I put one on I'm like "yes I do feel like a pre raphaelite muse thank you"
>Currently wearing: Illamasqua Facet
The conversation about it earlier in the thread was making me crave it the other day so I relented and put it on. But it's been so overcast all week I've barely seen the gold at all.
>White Whale: Illamasqua Hemlock
I'd sell my left foot for it at this point. While it was still in stock I'd stare at it and then think I have no use for a pearlescent white with a green-lilac shift and then I realised I actually really do and when I went to purchase it, it was out of stock. Now I'm full of regret.
