I view it as an issue of personal preference, but it makes more sense from a practical standpoint to go lower - less of the tie can flap around in defiance of the tie bar.

I know, I bought a set off amazon for cheap, assumed they were shorter than this. I'll give the others away as a gift

high up like that is better for super formal shit. go a little lower unless you are actually going somewhere super formal. id probably go lower anyway
