I will be using a clamped wood in order to help myself with the straight lines issues of a jigsaw

Is this trolling?

I want to build a "simple" desk like this one

All I see there are lots of particleboards cutted in a straight line, wood veneer, some screws and that's it

It doesn't even have those small legs underneat

am I missing something or am I oversimplifacting this desk?
>>
>>969260
no, I just happen to have ZERO knowledge whatsoever on doing a desk

I know I "must" get a circular saw, but I was wondering "how hard" could it be doing this using a jigsaw

or would the cut make it imposible to glue wood veneer on it?
>>
>>969263
Jigsaw is fine OP.
>>
Completely fine, OP.
Cuts are just going to take you a while.
>>
>>969261

Note that the drawers spanning underneath that thing are structural. You'll need some sort of similar support so it doesn't rack.

But, yeah, you could do it with a jigsaw and straightedge. It's going to be a bit of a pain, since it cuts so much more slowly than a circular saw, but you can.
>>
>>969251
it's gonna turn out pretty crappy
>>
>>969280
>drawers
I don't see any drawers in that "desk"
>>
>>969296
I found a stray particleboard, I will try to cut it with the jigsaw and I will report back as soon as possible

The funniest thing about this image is that this an office in some frozen country where the person in the office tries to do everything he can to feel like he is in a warmer more comfortable climate with more relaxed working ethic and the reality is that if he left his frozen palace that he would not even be able to handle the fact that parking under a coconut tree is a bad idea and when the cable guy says he is coming at 9:00am the next morning he really means sometime in the next week.

if it gets wet it turns to mush and its wobbly before that even happens use real wood
>>
>>969298

The big black metal box thing in the middle likely holds drawers.
>>
>>969317
nope, it is just a wood plank

This is my stray particleboard table

This side was alredy cut by a profesional carpenter. It was part of a bookshelf.

This side was cut by myself using a cheap jigsaw, a straight edge, plenty downward force towards the edge and lots of patience.

My hand still hurts from the force I needed to apply in order to keep it straight against the edge.

Does it looks straight?

I can see a little warping on there

I cant believe this hasnt been asked yet.
Why do you want to make a desk out of garbage?
The reason people make their own desk 95% of the time is because they want a hardwood desk and not some sawdust piece of shit.

That's like using a Lamborghini to make Geo metro.
OP youre doin it wrong

hey man. my dad was a cabinet maker. I worked in his shop on the weekends in school but I probably know very little here. Particle board doesn't cut very easily so you'd need a table saw (circular saw would probably work as you suggested). You use contact cement on the laminate or veneer to attach it to the board which is also cemented by a roller. I'd probably be sand planing the ends smooth if you were gonna try to attach anything to the surface after cutting (possibly using a straight surface and routing it might do the trick but again particle board is kind easy to get tearing apart).

>>969398
a lot of production woodworking would have this kind of thing happening. The using a straight piece of wood to guide a router to clean a jagged edge. Most of the stuff you would see these days is not solid wood at all. Using veneer is the bread an butter of most commercial woodworking. The only times we were ever using solid hardwood tended to be in my dad's guitar building. I have made a few things out of solid maple for friends and myself though.

if you are struggling to hold the saw down, you are most likely putting too much pressure forward
if you put a spare piece of wood on the side of the saw you can just slide it along the wood to keep your cuts straight

this only happens if you try to cut a piece that isnt secured properly. as in, you try to cut it without clamping it to something so it doesnt rattle about.

>>969251
op it is possible but what you dont see in those photos are all the metal fixings used to hold it together.

That's just life in the good old USA.
>>

Even if you have no budget for materials, go and find some scrap lumber rather than use particleboard.

Even free craigslist pallets are better than that shit. You can use particle board for the top surface if you can't find anything else suitable, but the frame should never be made of particleboard.

There is not enough information in that picture to tell if it's draws or a support beam, could be either.
>>
I would use plywood instead of chipboard. The extra cost is negligible the extra strength it will give you will be substantial.

Regan has a nice tone of talking. I could listen to that man giving a speech just because his voice is smooth.
