The nut is always a tight fit on the hose, though that hose doesn't look standard at all.

is it really close? if so take the insert out, put the nut on, then put the insert in... if not where is the tubing you are using coming from? that end looks bigger than 1/4 inch...

most likely it's 5/16th... and you'll need an adapter... or if the tubing behind it (the thinner stuff) is 1/4 inch you could just cut the big end off and then put that insert and nut on that....

I do appliance repair, be prepared for the first couple of minutes of water coming through the water filter to drag a lot of black dust and look like shit.... also invest in a 10$ water leak alarm and throw it behind your fridge... if that slowleaks, your in for a bad time...

What is that white nodule on the hose? All the hoses I have installed were uniformly smooth. Also is there metal in the middle of the hose or did you put the ferrule in the hose?

Sounds like you're straight up fucked.

Look for push lock fittings (Google John Guest) at your local hardware store. Check the tubing sizes, it may be 5/16 and not 1/4.

Used to install appliances for a living; those factory plastic hoses are nightmare fuel.
Do yourself a favor and throw away that plastic POS.
1)It will nearly impossible to get it not to leak and although you wont be aware it will quietly wreck the floor
2)if you ever pull your fridge forward to clean under it or have a servicer over for repair go back and see #1.

You want a stainless steel flex line, make sure to get one that a couple feet longer that you think you'll need to allow the fridge to be pulled forward completely without running out of slack.
added bonus the SS flex lines use a actual rubber o-ring and give a proper seal.

Not that anon but yes thats the proper way to do it. You could also use the flexible copper that comes in a coil. Use a can of food as a form to make any bends. Also, don't use a saddle valve like this pic. >>968745 Plumb in a proper valve.
