If it can't make fries or hash browns, I'm just not that interested.

Then you make a potato cannon with a mandoline attachment

i made one once, but here in yurop a different type of pvc pipe is being sold, it's not as sturdy and flexible as the stuff you can get in america (built a perfect bottle bazooka there), which means that my father almost blew away my 3 year old cousin when the back came off.

yes
my propane powered one runs just on a short squirt from a camping canister and fires nearly every time with a piezeo igniter
had it for years, still works well....
pro tip - do not fire golf balls out of them unless you are far away from people and things they could land on

actually
the way factories cut fries is shooting whole potatoes through a pipe with water pressure. which forces the potatoes through a grid in the pipe at hundreds of miles per hour.
I've been considering making an air cannon for launching my portable shortwave antenna. I have a sand-filled tennis ball attached to ~2' of line attached to a dogbone insulator attached to ~100' of #14 Flex-Weave attached to a 3.5mm mono jack and while the antenna works pretty well it's a pain in the ass to string it anywhere high.
Freeze the potatoes for armour piercing effect :-)
Just don't shoot your own shed for testing purposes, unless it needs 2 more holes per potatoe.
