Hi diy! I'm kinda new on this board. For introduction here

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

Hi diy!
I'm kinda new on this board.
For introduction here is my latest project, I call it NEO. It was made from an Acer laptop, the best CPU temperature was 40C at the summer.
Sadly I poured one glass of water on to it, and it caused instant death :(
Btw how do you like it?

G'job OP
>>
>>898958

Looks neat.
>>
>>898958
Nice. How loud does the pump get compared to the original fan that was in it?
>>
>>898982
It was very silent. I used a simple mini fountain pump.
I forgot to mention, the last state of NEO worked with a peltier cool block instead radiator.
It took nearly 40 hour of work, and onl 2 sec to destroy it. :(
>>
Pretty creative, you need to work on your joints and soldering could use some clean up but I like it. Good work

..right down to an earth tie from the LCD frame to the jug plug. Literal 9.5/10 build man, the other .5 are purely cosmetic. Dayum shame to hear it ate shit.

Now, you must learn from the lessons of v1.0 and build them into v2.0. Start with a splashproof cover for the mainboard. That radiator though.. so hrng.. elegant in execution and simple in construction, love it. Now replicate it with a tighter footprint with narrower tubes, and tighten up the reserve tank. Do you actually need that much coolant in reserve? (legit question, I have never run liquid).

Utilise the footprint cutouts in whatever mainboard v2.0 has. That gap where it cuts around the optical drive? mount the PSU there. Go full retard and see if you can run full copper piping with concealed fill points for dat industrial look. Install 9001 RGB LED's that can cycle randomly, run colour aware backlight shenanigans, or change colour based on coolant temperature for visual overheat warnings. Tighten tighten tighten OP. 2.0 is going to be sick as aids.

never heard of fucking flux m8?

It's shit if it doesn't work. Why even post?

learning from mistakes is a lot more useful than observing success.

hay op, have you heard of submerged PCs? if not, you have the skills to make a 10/10 fishtank build.

Is diy full of idiots todays?

wouldn't it be more efficent if your radiator looked like A instead of B?
>>
>>898958
Your soldering hackjob sucks. Get your joints hotter next time and just dab on each side.

what's going on over here?
>>
>>898958
I rate this shit tier.
Why watercool something that can be cooled by a shitty 40x40mm fan running at 2w?

What an ugly hipster trophy.
>>

looks like a really really really terrible radiator.

D'you have a smaller picture? It doesn't fit on the screen of my Nokia 6230i.

it's op's picture, he circled the radiator

Copper and lead solder will kill the fish but yeah wonderful idea......

I'm thinking to make v2.0. Luckily I got an another Acer laptop what's cooling system is broken.

>>899088
Yes I know about them, but I don't like that idea.

>>899223
Yes I need more practice. And I have to buy some better tools

>>899250
Yes, I agree, that's why I made another one with peltier cool block.

>>899240
Because I wanted to build my first water cool system.

After NEO died I used the peltier block with my DIY Hookah. It worked, but not so well because the block was designed to water not air. Here is one pic about it:

fucking what? while what you're doing is cool, its overkill. if you submerged the entire deal, then build a radiator for the cycling oil, its essentially the same thing minus a ton of piping.
>>
>>898958
very impressive, but i can get better temps with a fan
>>
>>900229
submerged pcs are retarded tier shit. why don't you build one yourself instead of telling OP what he should build.
>>
>>899687
Nigga you don't put water in it
>>

This. They will eventually fail if you don't meticulously change the oil at regular intervals. Also, if it gets too hot, you need to power down and wait until ALL the oil cools down, which could take a while.
>>
>>900570
Then how do you have fish??
>>
>>900570
Nevermind, I get it now. The aquarium is just the container. What a stupid fucking idea that is.

>This. They will eventually fail if you don't meticulously change the oil at regular intervals.

The only possible failure that could be directly brought about by an oil bath would be the mineral oil acting as a solvent for some material in the PC.

However, mineral oil has relatively little potential compared to most other organic solvents. As far as I'm aware, it's only really problematic for some kinds of rubbers and polycarbonate. (Some conflicting data on effect on polypropylene.)

Unless you mean vegetable oil. In which case you're fucking stupid for using vegetable oil in the first place.

>>900604
>Also, if it gets too hot, you need to power down and wait until ALL the oil cools down, which could take a while.

Which is why you're supposed to add a pump and radiator.
