What happened is the fastener broke and the part that remained in the vertical pane caught on the side of the horizontal pane, removing a chunk of this shitty tier agglomerate bullshit.
The wood will not be the limiting factor in sturdiness I think.

Remove the broken fastener and try not to fill the hole with too much shit. wood glue would work fine, use loads of it and clamp hard. Wipe excess before it dries out.Let the glue cure and add a new fastener, you can make a pin with a metal rod or a dowel. if need be, drill a new hole at the right diameter.

Bring the broken part of your desk to home Depot. Buy a piece of higher grade particle board and instruct them to cut it to size and then make the holes required. In that order. Then install it into your desk.

Just take a tork head screw about 2" and take your cordless drill and run that baby thru the outer press board and secure it to the bottom and repeat this process twice.

Easy fix is an L bracket.

To restore original:
>remove screw
>put painters tape straight across bad spot to create hollow mold
>fill void with 2 part epoxy
>sand smooth
>drill out hole
> replace screw
