What's the best welder to use for exhaust work? I don't care about precision, this is just to be putting mufflers on cars or fixing gaps.

Descent mig welder
TIG 100% especially if you are dealing with stainless or chrome steels
>>1232443
Lincoln Pipeliner SA200
300A
5/16" 6011
Depends if you're welding stainless, chrome, titanium, aluminum, iron, or what. Exhausts come in a number of different metals.

>What's the best welder to use for exhaust work?
oxy/acetylene and coat hangers

SMAW with a car battery
SMAW is love, SMAW is life.
Lifehack:
If you have a hole in your exhaust then take a tin can and some gun glue to seal the edges and then simpky hold it on with hose clamps.

MIG or TIG. TIG would be better but if you plan to do other things too you're better off with MIG

Woodworking/diy/homestead fag here, I have some gates that need fixing. Would also like to make a ladder rack for my ute. Should I into welding?
>>1232940
Sure why not? If you have the time and patience to become competent it's a very handy skill to have. As a farmer being able to weld saves me thousands every year. If you get good enough to make shit you're able to sell it can also make a nice little side business

Who the fuck do you know running titanium fucking exhaust and why no pics anon???
>>1232926
>>1232979
Actually done this to my exhaust, I'll take a picture when the sun comes up.

>well, long story short foundry nunber 4 is in the works and it will be push button or mabe even fully automatic.
I am building it for mostly free with junk or buying random used shit and rednecking it together.
There will be a foundry in my town and i will shitpost in the foundry thread to apese poor anons who want to do cool shit.
Fuck, i might just make yall a bunch of cool free shit.

Omfg anon yes.

I know a some people that have akrapovic exhaust on their motorbikes. They are made out of titanium
>>1232940
get yourself a little generator/welder so you can work anywhere
keep an eye out at auctions
i've seen little esab generator/stick welders with a 8hp briggs engine go for ~$150. theres a bigass miller bobcat the county is surplusing going for ~$1000 locally.

Honestly that looks pretty good

What's the point of this post?

Motorcycles and super cars run titanium exhausts. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think those types are called "incanel" exhausts?
They're fuckin expensive but they're lightweight and sometimes sound a lot better.

Check out Hobart's refurbished site. If they're out, get on their email notification.
Picked up a Hobart 210 for $700-something this winter and I've had a blast. Everyone has their opinion of what you 'need', but really all you need is to get time behind a machine.

>I think those types are called "incanel" exhausts?
Sorry m8 but no
You're thinking of inconel, which is a nickel and chrome based alloy. Some types have titanium in them but only in a very small proportion.
You're right about the exhausts though. 99% of the titanium-related posts on my memebook welding pages show exhausts for expensive cars.

I've found utilitarian metalwork to be easier than utilitarian woodworking. No need for cleats or hiding screws or joints. Just cut, weld, grind.
Yea, I'm the railroad feller from the other thread.
>>1233148
>Utilitarian
Tell me how this is more utilitarian then some angled dowells in a "fancy" routered tabled to all shit piece of maple?
>>1233159
Just in general.
Slapping 2x4s together is harder and uglier than smacking some 2" square tubing together.
>>1233165
No its not.
>>1233007
Oh shit link? I'll buy that son of a bitch right now.
>>1233169
Oh. Ok.

they'd probably give you a week to pick it up, other stuff is usually next day pickup
>>1233134
It'll outlast the exhaust. Most non performance cars have thin as shit mufflers, plus the tin doesnt hold mud easy and normally doesnt rust so bad.
>>1233025
anon....i'm no expert but i think you have an exhaust leak.
>>1232443
Mig/mag of course. TIG is too tedious and if you don't care about precision it's not worth it. Depending on your skill, budget, material choice and thickness you can choose either Gas or flux filled wire. Gas is less messy but more hassle and expensive while flux wire is less expensive and cheaper. When welding with flux the welder becomes more probable also as you don't have to carry around bottles
