Okay. I'm looking for something kind of small and compact but with some power. Something capable of 100-500 rpm without gear reduction would be preferred. Any ideas where I could find a DC motor like that?

Not wanting to crush cans with it. Just need it to produce same motion. Will serve other purpose that won't require as much torque. As for gear reduction beef I'm wanting to keep moving parts to a minimum so as to reduce points of potential failure.

by which i mean use if for the machine, like take apart, wire vari resistor where the trigger is, mount it, then mount it. recriprocating saws use the same type of motion as your example, aand its already assembled. but i do understand the appeal of male female robot 3 ways, theres a nuance about fucking beside a washing machine motor screwed to a piece of mdf

but why no gear reduction? you don't have to cut gears by hand, just buy something that already works (or maybe nig-rig a chain reduction with some stolen bicycle parts?)
