Looking to install some hardy board where this shitty laminate shower is. I had some help installing the floor tile now I want a shower surround.
Should I go for larger tiles or smaller, and would a darker color look better?

Seems a vapor barrier would be a good idea

Hardie board is a brand name, often used shorthand referring to their cement backer board, just like duraroc.
When you mention a crescent wrench, most people know you mean an adjustable wrench, as opposed to pulling out every Crescent branded wrench in the catalog.

Hey man, can you grab my Skilsaw?

Sal DiBlasi on youtube. Watch and learn.
Did my bathroom remodel based entirely off of his workflow and it turned out amazing. Never touched tile before and I've had dozens of people gobsmacked that it isn't a pro install

Larger tile look so ether in a small space, however that sometimes means more cuts.

Stupid autocorrect
Larger tile looks better...

I have a small galley kitchen in a house built in the 50s. Some tard thought would be good to redo the floor with 18 inch tile. It looks completely retarded. the kitchen is 2.5 tiles wide in most spots. Ridiculous.

It's a common mistate to think smaller things go into small rooms. It only stands to make the room look smaller.

Large tile goes quickly, and you need less grout. Do not set board and tile so gaps line up. Tile saw is critical, but you can rent them.
Dark or light is presence, dark sometimes makes things too dark in the bathroom. I went mid-tan on mine.
Make sure you put plenty of screws in, you don't want the backer board flexing.

Recently did my kitchen and entryway with 13" tiles. Turned out pretty nice.
Bathroom surround's next, i've got a shitty plastic surround in there now that needs to go... next month or so I'll be diving into that project.
Been looking through MLS, that's a good resource for kitchen/bath/paint/landscape ideas that work for the style/construction around your area. You'll see some hilariously bad kitchens/baths too, but there's some in there that have given me ideas for how I want to do mine.
I'm fairly skilled with /diy/ stuff, but I sorely lack any creative/interior-design skills.

this. Grout's probably the shittiest part of tilesetting; the less of it to deal with the better.
Thought about doing a niche or two, but it seems like a lot more work than I want to put into this place right now. I'll probably just put a couple 45° shelves in the corners and call it good.
