This chimney on my roof smells like fucken shit. I was cleaning some leaves after the storm and took a wiff of the chimney. I'm think some birds or squirrels are shitting in the pipe. I'm going to buy a protective cap for it.
But how do I clean out this pipe. I'm afraid the shit smell will stink up the inside of my House.

Troll.
Such a troll.
Please be a troll.
>>1221988
Looks like the cover plug came off. You can do a fast emergency plug using a can of Great Stuff foam.
>>1221993
This. I rented a house once that had two big ones like this, and 3 little ones. ALL of them were missing the caps.
Leave it alone anon its supposed to smell like shit. Because you cant google: http://prosystemsroofing.com/what-are-those-pipes-sticking-out-of-your-roof/
>>1221993
This. They have PVC caps at Home Depot. Don't forget to prime the pvc first with that purple shit, then hold the cap on tight for 30 seconds after you glue it in place.
>>1221989
>Please be a troll.
of course he is, and it's pretty funny, compared to some of the "how do I get this screw out" trolls.
My house had 4 of these things. Looked ugly as fuck. Last time I had the roof done I told the guy to cut them off just below the sheeting and patch over them. House looks so much better.
>>1222109
Sounds like he got the shitty end of that job.
>>1221988
Just fill it up with cement and the smell will go away
That's a rain collector. Just put a funnel on it bro.
It is a stink pipe from yr septic system. Fluids and waste go down the drains. Air has to escape to allow the material in.
> he doesn't know about his roof toilet
You shit in it when your working on the roof silly
>>1221988
That's probably NOT a Chiminy...
It's a Sewer / Septic Vent...
It's supposed to smell like shit.
Very intrigued. Is it the same thing as an air hole on a motorcycle tank so there's no bobbling?
>>1222668
yes. it's very bad when a house bobble.
>>1221996
Find the correct size cap and use pvc or abs cement (depending on vent stack type) to seal in any stinky smells.
>>1222668
Are you discussing the charcoal canister to diffuse the gasoline smell? We use these so every car doesn't smell like gasoline in a ten yard radius. Took that shit off the Mustang though, fuck that shit.
>>1222753
Francis?
>>1222792
They fell for the bobble house meme.
OP needs to add a shot of black and cap those stinky pipes before he reeks up the whole house.
>>1221988
You gotta burn them out OP. Throw a lit flare down there.
>>1221988
This has to be troll thread.
10/10 got me a kek ona monday. Thanks op
>watching all these people mock OP
>literally just yesterday I learned that plumbing systems have roof vents
h-ha ha fuckin dumb OP a-am I rite
>>1223793
I just learned from this thread that they exist.
Seriously.
>>1221988
Don't listen to these chuckle-fucks op, including the stutter-monkey >>1223793
What you need to do is get some firm decent sized potatoes and shove them down that vent to block it. 2 or 3 should do it. What this does is provide a 100% natural barier that will block the odors. The natural phosphoric acid levels in potatoes act as a kind of catalytic converter, thus neutralizing the sewer odors. You might need to periodically add more potatoes in case they dry out and shrivel up.
Do this and you can say good-bye to those pesky smells and over priced plumbers bills, all while using environment friendly material. It will keep your pipes squeeky clean too. A real win-win situation.
>>1223793
>>1223964
Well, since you're in learning mode, it is possible for critters to get stuck in there and die, as crazy as that sounds. If that happens you have a partial blockage in the vent, and whatever it's venting won't drain right. Sinks get slower, and toilets just act completely weird. It's possible that people get up on your roof and fuck with them too, then (because you might not know that plumbing vents exist) it drives you crazy for a week or two trying to figure out what's wrong, then you spend money for a plumber to come tell you your vent is blocked. This last is usually because you're an asshole, or you're screwing someone's daughter that you shouldn't be.
>>1221988
Kek are Amerifarts houses so smelly that you need a litteral fart chimney to get rid of the poo smell?
>>1224537
Plumbing vents is to allow sewer gases to escape without building up and causing toilets to back flow into the house. There is no smell inside the house from this.
How can OP incorporate a shot of black in this project so people will know he is a pro?
>>1224541
Can he add some freshener?
>>1222003
>PVC
Mate you forgot that you have to make at least a 1/4 turn after gluing, before you hold it tight.
>>1224699
I guess you could, if you have a reason to hang around a vent stack all day. It won't last though. You'll be Febreezing into the wind.
>>1221988
that is the stink pipe sir. that ain't bird shit your smelling. that's your shit. it's an exhaust for your septic.
>>1226155
im a roofer dont play with thw pipes on your roof. that's a stink pipe they stink. it's exhaust for your septic. some of the other ones are exhausts for hvac. you can fuck it up and just have propane exhaust leaking into your house.
>americans keep the shit tank INSIDE THEIR HOUSE
What the fuck? Normal people have that outside buried in the ground. What if it starts leaking years old shit everywhere?
>>1226531
>What if it starts leaking years old shit everywhere?
Maybe after you've been to the moon and back we'll start taking waste water control advice from you.
>>1226542
Dont ever put a shit tank in your roof, goddamn
>>1226531
They're memeing. Most, if not all houses in the city have sewer connections, rather than septic, I live out in the country though, so I have septic, and that shit-tank is buried outside.
>>1226551
I thought it might be some insane regulation.
I live in the countryside too, the guy who built the house just put an overflow pipe going from the tank straight into the river at the back of my land instead of a proper soil filtration system.
I'm afriad to look at the cost of fixing it or even letting anybody know about it in case I get fucked.
>>1226588
The cost is you getting your ass out there with a ditch witch and laying some field pipe and connecting it to the tank
>>1226613
This stuff is not cheap to rent out here but I suppose you are right, nobody will ever know...
Fun anecdote:
Working for a plumber, I've seen and dealt with all kinds of nasty shit, literally even. I've stood in boots in a pit of sewage trying to clear and fix a main line in a yard. I've had a flood of used tampons shoot out of a pipe that collapsed and got plugged.
But the worst thing ever that I can recall
>Lavatory sink next to toilet, so maybe 5 foot of pipe between trap and 4 inch main line.
>Slow, not completely blocked. Owner used liquid plumber or such.
>We get called, cleared it with small drill powered snake, felt like we went through a hair clog, but pulled nothing back.
>Drains fine for a couple of minutes, then slows back up.
>Snake it again, repeat a couple of times more.
>Small bits of hair on cable, must be bad hair/beard/soap combo caked up.
>Finally, decide to unwind the bulb a little at the end of the cable, sharp hook now at end.
>Snake cable really grabs on to clog this time, can feel some weight on it.
>Start pulling out cable from wall, with pan to catch any large chunks of goo.
>Odd looking gooey, hairy kind of plastic bag type thing starts come out
Turned almost completely inside out, falling apart:
>A fucking rat.
A twisted up, partially blended, melting, guts falling out, rat.
Rat must have got into vent stack, fallen down, but wouldn't flush down through bend or fitting in pipe.
>Not trying to pull that off the end of cable, it belongs to the rat now
>cable, drum, straight into trash bag, detached from drill with gloves

generic ditch witch type trencher, pic related, at home depot here in the southern US
$85 for 4 hours
$121 for a day
$484 for a week
It shouldn't take a whole day unless there are lots of big roots and rocks.
>>1226626
The thing I posted is called a digger here and would be more versatile for backfilling the trench with gravel/soil and shit opposed to the specialist machine you posted here which I have never seen before, would cost about €250 a day. The shit pipes themselves are expensive too so even doing it myself I'm looking at €2000-5000 but I have to fix this fuck up because it is a total embarrasment and like watching nature get raped before your eyes.
>>1226622
Plumbing is the most disgusting job ever, at least you get well paid
