I'm looking to build a motor boat. Nothing crazy, just a utility boat, it just needs to hold one or two people and some supplies, like gas cans and so forth, and drive around a lake.
A boat frame (or hull or whatever you call it) goes for, oh, 500 bucks on craigslist. Same for the sort of motor I'm looking for, single digit horsepower. Given that, I'm assuming an ideal budget of about 1200 or so.
As you've probably guessed I'm completely ignorant as to what the rest entails. What are the details I'm missing here? Is anything I'm considering here an incredibly bad idea for one reason or another?

Wear a life jacket.
You know you can probably buy an old fishing boat and motor for that budget and just give it a spit shine right?

That's the idea.
Oh, you mean, like, all in one piece.
Haven't been able to find anything cheap enough like that yet.

>buy old boat
>buy lifejacket, bailing can, paddle, air horn
>go boating
I'm not seeing the /diy/ here
