do you have a multimeter with max/min already? there are cheaper clamp attachments you can buy than a complete clamp meter.

Bingo and yes I do have a multimeter and i have a clamp meter. I need the inrush so i can find the right appliances. Running a house on a 2000 watt inverter. A good one but lets say my refrigerator surges while its already at 1200 watts, i may trip it.

Why do you need a clamp meter? If you have a multimeter that can read AC volts RMS and responds quickly, consider just buying a big resistor like http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Johanson-Dielectrics/RWCSG4Q000R1FS/ mounting it to a decent heat sink, placing it in series with the equipment, measuring voltage across, and multiplying by 10.

Because inrush current is literally a tenth of a second. Even though i could do that i still couldn't see fast enough to read it.

This is why god invented oscilloscopes. Buy one if you can afford it even if you think you will seldom use it.

A meter, no. Not made for it.

But a CT at the right ratio and a scope will give you what you want for max cheapness.

You could cobble an old clamp meters instrument and put it on a scope but your mileage may vary.

I am curious why you give a fuck about the inrush. This is usually 9-12 times FLA who's characteristic will be depended upon the impedance of the system.

In other words what could you possibly find valuable from that shit?

Why are you so worried about the inrush? I'd be more interested to see what FLA will be over a period of time.
