Noob here, I'm trying to remove the seats in my car for a project and I'm having trouble with the bolt in pic related. It's in a really tight, hard to access place that my standard drive socket is way too big to fit in. It gets blocked by the black plastic above it.

Can anybody suggest a solution to this? A tool that could work?
>>
Why won't a regular wrench work?
>>
A wrench.

Socket with a swivel piece
>>

>>1196965
I tried a wrench; no luck. It's way tighter than it looks in the pic.
>>
>>1196971
Then you're a manlet. Lock a second spanner to the first for extra leverage.

wrench, maybe a little heat. There's usually some threadlocker on those studs.
>>1196974
>manlet
also this

Or socket on a breaker bar. Those are cheap at hft.
But a wrench should be all you need.
>>
>>1196971
Did you try getting someone that isn't a limp wristed fairy to crank it a few times? If you have an American made wrench and you didn't bend it or break a jaw off of it trying to get the bolt off then you clearly don't have the grip strength to manage it. Impact power tools have caused a generation of mechanics to become soft handed sissies. Ask them to remove a bolt they can't get a power tool on and they act like you asked them to travel to the moon in a rowboat.

Leverage is your friend. Here's how the double wrench trick works, if you need even more, get a pipe and slip it over the wrench.
>>
>>1196978
He probably doesn't even own air tools, he said he's a noob, stop projecting you fag.
>>
>>1196967
swivel piece?
its either a universal joint, u joint or a wibbly-wobbler.
never heard it called a swivel piece before!
>>
>>1196962
Get a breaker bar or steel pipe to add leverae to your socket wrench.

Do a google image search for "swivel socket" and see what you get. Now do one for the names you mentioned. See which one comes up with sockets. Picture related. The number one result for one of your names.

>>1196981
They sell battery powered impacts now. That is what a lot of the DIY types own. Most don't have compressors strong enough to run air tools let alone have their garages plumbed for air.
>>
>>1196992
if i google "universal joint socket" i get a fucking page full of exactly the correct thing.
the name comes from the actual name of the mechanical implementation of joining the two parts on the pins.
that is literally what it is called. that is its name.
>>
>>1196962
I'll about the Gator Grip sockets for that stuff. You can get one for about twelve bucks.
>>
Found a good price on them at home depot http://www.homedepot.com/p/Gator-Grip-3-8-in-Universal-Socket-with-Power-Drill-Adapter-ETC120A/100351756
>>
Take off that piece of black plastic. I guarantee it wasn't on there before the seats were put in the assembly line.
>>
>>1196962
nice pink car, faggot
>>
>>1196962
Seat bolts REQUIRE heat or youll never ever ever get them off
>>
>>1197275
it's not pink faggot
>>
>>1197328
Oh sorry. "Light red."
>>
>>1196962
Shoot it with a gun?
>>
>>1196974
>Then you're a manlet.

By 'tight' I think OP means not enough clearance to get a wrench on.

I can see a socket not fitting, but I just can't see the problem for a standard box end wrench in OP's photo. OP should try to put one on and take a photo of the interference.
>>
>>1196962

I don't really know jack shit, but if that is [red] lock tight. You'll need to heat that bolt up to about 500 degrees (F) to remove it. The red needs like fire heat bra. The blue doesn't.
>>
>>1197724
And OP was never heard from again
>>
>>1197724
>if that is [red] lock tight.
It's not. It's pink paint just like the car.
The stud was painted pink during painting of the pink floor pan.
>>
>>1197724
>The red needs like fire heat bra

Bullshit. Only in very rare cases and seat bolts aren't one of them.

t. ancient mechanic

I'd use a Gearwrench to remove it. I kept a set for salvage yard work on jobs just like that.

A box end wrench will certainly do it, but slower.
>>
Take off the bolt attached to the seat
>>
>>1197931
Whatever grandpa
>>
>>1197724
>I don't really know jack shit
Just stop right there. This is the only true part you said.
>>
>>1197938
He asked, I answered correctly. Got a problem with that?
>>
>>1196974
Lol. This guy cant undo a fucking nut. Get hollow pipe, put over socket handle, donkey kick. Im from georgia mother fuckers
>>
>>1198869
>Get hollow pipe
>>1198869
>Im from georgia
We guessed that when you implied there is pipe that isn't hollow.
>>
>>1198899
Shucks, I should of said hollow rod. But I kept it simple. My bad big guy.
>>
>>1199029
> using the words "hollow rod" instead of "pipe"
> keeping it simple

You really need to stop posting.
>>
>>1199042
Oh, so you don't know the difference?
>>
>>1196992

Clearly you do not work in a garage or a factory. Everyone in the business calls it a wibbly-wobbler. Watch any show about a NASCAR or F1 and you will hear some guy use the term.
>>
>>1199127
>>
>>1197189

Terrible suggestion. I hope you are trolling or misunderstood the problem.

Those are for odd situations like fucked up nuts or perhaps some kind of non-standard fastener.

Ideally OP will use a six-point socket. They never damage the fastener. Next best is a box-end wrench. Pretty far down the list is your tool.

Gearwrenches are awesome tools because you can crawl under a car with pic related and have 8 sizes, but if OP has an ordinary box end then a Gearwrench does not help, especially if OP needs the leverage shown here >>1196979
>>
>>1197328
oh, sorry i'll rephrase:

nice rose ashes car, faggot
i bet it perfectly matches your makeup and high heels, faggot
>>
>>1199135
Gearwrenches are most common with a standard open end opposite the Gearwrench ratcheting end. I double wrench them with a conventional box wrench all the time working on cars.
>>
>>1200022
>are most common

I don't agree with that, but if OP has your style of gearwrenches then wonderful.

this whole thread seems to imply that OP doesn't have shit.

>>
>>1196962
Just fucking cut the plastic jesus christ
>>
>>1197312
100% bullshit, I get them out regularly with plain old ratchet and socket.
