Go to Harbor Freight. About 7 years ago I went to HF and bought a drill for $20 to put 1-1/4" deck screws into a 2x4 framed 140sqft grow room in my basement. It performed admirably for the task at hand(which was way more screws than I thought it could handle), along with other 2x4 and/or 1/2 plywood growing related projects for the next 2 years while simultaneously being used for random around the house type things. When I left that house I gave it to my roommate. When I was home for Christmas this past winter I saw it sitting on my buddies desk and asked him about it. He said the battery can barely hold a charge, but it still works for what he needs it to. That drill probably costs $30 now, but fuck it, for a tool that's meant for light duty that will last a couple years it's worth it.

EBay over-priced? What? Oh yeah, on everything since like 2002. The tool section of CL is better, and sometimes a real deal pops up, but you can still find better deals on used tools.

Go on CL, check the garage sale section, find a local estate sale that has tools listed, go to it. Do that a few times and you will find what you need.

I have seen sales where they have a $5 table piled high with power tools. I have gone to sales, loaded up a box with hundreds of dollars of tools and had the seller say "$20 for all of it". I went to an estate sale once, loaded up a brand new Kennedy carpenter's toolbox (it is made to carry hand saws so it is 32 inches wide) with so many tools I couldn't close the lid, plus a second cardboard box filled with even more tools and the dude said $70. I talked him down to $55. The box alone is worth twice that in used condition. This one was untouched and still had the sales fliers and inspection card in it.

As the saying goes; Good place, good quality, available right now, pick two. If you want to save a buck and still buy good quality tools you have to dig for it.
