Hello diy, i want to run 9 circuits using 1 inch EMT pipe using 10 awg thhn wire rated at 90 degrees using the 3 phase multiwire method with 3 shared neutrals so thats 12 wires plus 1 ground and sine i can run 16 wires on 1 inch EMT well i'm ok on that i been reading the nec 310.15 page that allow up to 9 circuits on a raceway with a derate of 70% wich gives me a derate of 21 amps, i'm using 20 amps brakers so again i think i'm ok there, but the question is if those 3 shared neutrals are considered current carrying conductors by the inspector or ill be fine.

i can't answer your question but i can give you a curious anecdote from UK regulations last time i checked you don't have to derate wiring run together if they are part of the same circuit. which to me seems retarded.
if its 3 phase how much do you expect the neutral to carry? if it is anything then is a conductor so i guess you count it. if nothing then why put it there?
i tried to look at the code you said but i gave up when i saw "ampacity" fucking hell.

the problem with the nec, that it is left to the inspector to interpret it how they want to. so you can end up with 2 inspectors, giving you totally different answers, if you know who the inspecror is, ask them.
Just from a professional stand point don't share neutrals. Break your self of the habit and you will have less problems down the line.id also run 2 1in or 3 3/4. Just to make it easier on yourself and leave some wiggle room in the conduit. What are you running the circuits for? 277 or 120?

120 volts, but in 1 inch pipe you can just fit 16 wire 10 gauge (of course you can squeeze way more than that but the table says so) then i could not fit 9 circuits with separate neutrals and ground wire since that's 19 wires total.

> derate of 70% wich gives me a derate of 21 amp
>10 awg thhn wire rated at 90 degrees
Table 310.15(B)(3)(a) references table 310.15(B)(16). Table value of #10 AWG with THHN coating isn't 30A. That's a good place to start.
Actually, you probably just want to pass inspection. You'll be more likely to pass and you'll have a cleaner installation if you follow the two tips given by >>1195972
