I'm working on a project and I need 2 one inch pillow block bearings and a 70 cm solid shaft. Where could I find these in a junkbyard?

Pillow block bearings are super cheap, depending on the size you need. If they are small enough you can get a pair for under $5 new. Even larger ones are only like 7 bucks a pop. If you spend an hour of your time trying to find a set and you make at least minimum wage you've already wasted more money more than they cost.

you could get away with aluminum for the pillow blocks. therefore, find some aluminum round bars and slap them on a drill press in a vice.

for the shaft, you should just find some round stock chrome plated steel, Just use a set screw to key it, because if you are this dumb, I'm sure you dont have any way to machine a keyway.

Both of these types of metal stock can be found at any scrap yard in raw form about 5 days out of 6.

This guy had a video of this if I remember correctly.. he used this to sand guitar backs?

Let us know how it comes out.

Also fwiw I've found pillow blocks at my local army surplus junk store. However results may vary

Op here, just went to the store and they charge 30 bucks for 1 pillow block

Minimum wage is a whopping 11 dollars an hour here

Try Ebay. Industrial suppliers get high prices because their customers "need it now" for production.

Your local metal supplier can be a good source for shafting, but look online too.

Common round stock is not shafting BTW but can sometimes work if the OD is correct. There's plenty of shafting for sale on Ebay, both keyed and round.

My metal supplier said the shaft is 11 bucks which is doable. For the blocks i will just order online.
