If laminate is going over it anyway you can use absolutely anything, plywood with slats underneath would be the easiest. What state are those floorboards in? Could they be restored rather than covering wood with fake wood?

You can't isolate when you're a noob. Build the entire floor up, your weak spots can be filled in after you've been doing this for two years.

cement and sand you retard

Youre putting laminate ofer that beautiful original wood floor rather than refineshing it for less than the cost of laminate. What the hell is wrong with you?
>>
>>1187152
agreed it looks old but still in a really good condition

They are full of gaps and holes everywhere. Sanding and total refurb of old flooring is a giant time sink and pain in the arse. Full (nice) laminate flooring for a 60m square flat is only £350. Its a full flat refurb in britain and people like the clean new look, the gaps look awful when boards are fully renewed, and the smell of ash deafening underneath wont go away unless covered.

So shut the fuck up clueless cunts.

Nah yeah that's shit wood. Just because it's old doesn't mean it's high quality. Great candidate for laminate.
>>
>>1187177
Do you even renovate bro
>>
>>1187102
Floor leveler. Be sure to tack underlayment hood around where the wood is actually present to prevent the wood from popping up and down over the filled hearth. Maybe even some flooring glue under the underlayment on the untackable area.

This guy doesn't do floors. Do not leave that wood exposed, it's old gross subfloor. You cannot sand that down. You may lose nail heads doing so resulting in an unfixable, squeeky floor.

Sweep and vacuum area, floor leveler, let cure, scrape flush with subfloor, underlayment, trowel glue, let become tacky and where it doesn't come off the floor onto your hands when you touch it, apply laminate

This, or literally anything that gets hard enough to support compression.
>>1187116
This as well.

You can use anything, stack some ply up till it's close and use gyprock jointing compound to get the last couple mm. At least this way the next mong can easily remove it to restore the beautiful wood floor underneath the garbage.

Pic related. What I used when I was installing tons of laminate every day (although this will be somewhat permanent) is fast.

Self Leveling cement primer
Self Leveling Cement
Screw down an underlayment of the thickness that will make the laminate level.
then flooring

OR, and this is a mutch better option,

Self leveling primer
Self leveling cement
Vinyl modified masonry mortar
Two big slabs of sweet looking rough basalt with a 1/4" of mortar between.

Some sealer

your laminate is going to get damaged eventually, and brings no thermal mass into the living space, making the hearth pretty much useless.
>>
We had to do something similar with our kitchen as we didn't have time/money to do a full demo of a tile floor. Mix up some cement and fill the whole thing in, you could just smooth the whole thing off and then put the lino on top, or as mentioned don't fill it all the way up but add a layer of self-leveling cement afterwards once it's dry for a smooth finish.
>>
>>1188112
Holy fuck, is that what a hearth is for? I thought it was where a fireplace used to sit...
>>
>>1187106
this. (the first part) might be easier to just lay in some plywood until the depression is flush with the rest of the floor then laminate over all. why even mess with concrete? if it hardens and isn't flush with floor yer screwed. if you lay some plywood in there and it isn't flush you pop it back out and adjust until it is flush. easy peasy mate.

Took me a minute to realize this is a Euro poster.
They don't have a laundry room with the washer and dryer always connected.

What did she have to say for herself? She didn't stop after the first tear or roll?
>>
>>1191757
Well she was already in tears upset about fucking it up at the time but if I remember she DRAGGED it out then left it as she noticed what happened (initially me and moving guy gently lifted it into place), so I asked why the fuck didn't you wait for me or at least put down some washing up liquid or use the copious amount of cardboard from our moving boxes?

As for the damage it's not too severe but there's fuck all you can do to repair it, a few holes/rips which I folded back over, transition into wood floor dining room popped off and floor bunched up which I smoothed out and reattached.
