Made some viking-esque mugs from logs this weekend using chisels and fire. It was tedious as fuck but I'm happy with the results. Just wanted to post em here

What did you do about the bottom of the mug?
Love it. Would drink mead from mug.

you can sell these at a Ren fair for like 20$ a pop.
I plan to go big next. I have a 10 inch diameter log I plan on making into a giant beer mug that will hold hopefully 40 oz

Or cottonwood?

Wasn't sure if you just hollowed it, or if you coopered it like a barrel. It might make your life a little easier if you consider doing something like that. Takes more skill to master, but makes for mugs less likely to split.

I've made those before in 4 piece walls with a separate bottom fit into a groove. It's really a lot easier in my opinion than hollowing the log but I was going for a more rudementary style of crafting and to kill some time on my days off. The wood is already cured so splitting shouldn't pose an issue
Mmmmmm
... Ale
