I did this in highschool but didn't know it was a thing to do for fun. I bought an old Civic with collision damage on the rear passanger door and rusted out fenders for $600. A few trips to the junkyard, fluids and a rattlecan paintjob later and I had a car for the year which I sold the next spring for $1500 and got my current car.
