I sold a big item on eBay and I built a sturdy wooden crate for it. The buyer is American and I'm from Europe.
There's a big problem. As I was hiring DHL to ship it to the US they told me I can only use ISPN-15 approved wood when making a crate. I simply used whatever shitty planks and plywood I could find lying around.
There's no way I can prove the wood complies with the regulations and there's also no way I'll dismantle the crate I built for 3 weeks and just cancel the sale.
What to do? I simply have no idea, this is the first time I've ever encountered such a problem. What the fuck, I have to buy "licensed" wood just for a fucking box that's destroyed anyway? The buyer is not paying me extra for the crate, since the shipping itself is like a thousand bucks.
Gotta love doing international business on eBay.
Go to lumberyard. See stamps they put on wood. Replicate on your wood.
You could modify this pic and stencil it on the crate in a couple of spots.
Just write " THIS IS GOOD WOOD, I PROMISE. REGARDS, OP FROM SWEDEN"
on the crate.

OP here.
I live in a country where shipping companies do not crate the items, it's the client's own responsibility.
And the fuckers assume that private clients know about ISPM 15 regulations and such.

socialist utopia
Products exempt from the ISPM 15 are made from an alternative material, like paper, plastic or wood panel products (i.e. OSB, hardboard, and plywood).

Just write down ISPN15WOOD

If packing less than 6mm, your golden - whole routine does not apply.. So basically, you have a choice between skinning your old knockup job with 'new' 5mm outer (prob still illegal technically, but, whatever), or re-skinning your old knockup with some 'approved' heat treated shit. As said, basically only need to skin what you already packed, not start again from Adam & Eve. Bit more weight, sure, but, less hassle than dismantle & new, IMO. Protip, private logistics firm would deal with everything for you, charge you accordingly tho.

>basically only need to skin what you already packed
And the original 20mm planks will be hidden underneath?
Kinda sneaky, but also immoral in a funny way.
cool

I bet customs check suspicious, veneered boxes for cases like this.
If it weighs 100 pounds and the outer layer is 2mm veneer, there's a chance something else is underneath.

nah, this will do as-is
The irony is that you whole shipment could be nothing but "illegal" wood and it's just fine as long as it's packaged in official Trumpwood(tm).

Do you even understand what irony is? I would say no considering you're the type to randomly throw politics into everything like your post.

Get caught doing that and you'll be very fucked
I looked into this thing.
You can apply for a permit to stamp your wood with the ISPM-15 stamp IF your wood has been heated for 30 minutes so that the core of the wood has reached the temperature of 56 celsius degrees.
So I guess you could just take it to a sauna or something..?
The problem is convincing the ISPM board that your method is adequate.

Google "Emerald Ash Borer" and you will see why this is no game.
