Motherfuckers will not stop going off every time I cook.
I had a roast in the oven at 450ºF and the motherfuckers started beeping. There wasn't any smoke anywhere in the house. I don't fucking get it.
What the fuck is wrong with my smoke detectors?
Slap a plastic bag over it. Problem fucking solved.
Mofos used to do that all the time when smoking in the dorm room back in the day
>>1174243
Mine do that too. Solution is to stick it in my washer when I cook.
There is no solution other than moving it, or covering it up, which defeats the purpose.
Do you have an exhaust fan over your range?
>>1174243
Smoke alarms are supposed to be on the other side of a door from the kitchen and not inside a kitchen or in an area adjacent to a kitchen if there's no door. A lot of the smoke alarms tell you this in the installation instructions. Also, use a vent fan over your stove to help reduce odors/cooking smoke.
>>1174243
My smoke detectors are bros.
I can fill the room with smoke when cooking and they don't even go off!
>>1174268
you s'posed to put a battery in them, anon.
>>1174256
>Slap a plastic bag over it. Problem fucking solved.
but it melts and sticks to the turkey, unless you buy one of those expensive oven bags, and at that point you might as well go to Jersey Mikes.
Have you considered that maybe you just need to run a cleaning cycle on your dirty ass oven? Disconnect the alarm during that and then reconnect when done.
>>1174270
He means the smoke alarm.
>>1174285
>cleaning cycle
>oven
There is no such thing. You have to clean it yourself with elbow grease. Anyone who thinks otherwise is ignorant or deluded.
>>1174243
The heat from the oven will set that shit off too. Not just the smoke
>>1174243
>a roast in the oven at 450ºF
that's waay too hot for a roast
>>1174243
they actually have a little cage built in, with lasers and shit bouncing around inside of it. if it senses any kind of disturbance, they go off. also depends on the model
>>1174269
if they're wireless, yeah, most new houses though have electrician smokes, or a fire system install
>>1174270
>>1174350
They're actually radioactive (Americium), not lasers.
Fun fact- kid made a nuclear reactor after buying a few hundred smoke detectors and taking them apart.
Alphabet agency's were not happy...
>>1174989
>after buying a few hundred smoke detectors and taking them apart
He stole most of them.
>>1174989
if i remember correctly he also used lantern mantles with thorium in them and a pot of radium watch paint

That's a sensitive detector. If it's more than 10 years old replace it. There are some models with temporary silencing buttons for cooking situations. Years ago (late 1980's) we had an ionization type (contains a small radioactive source) always going off while cooking. We used to put a plastic shopping bag over it & hold it in place with an elastic band while cooking. We switched to a photoelectric type (IR light source) which eliminated the "false" alerts.
Also for improved safety and performance because we had read concerning reports about ionizing type detectors as early as 1990. Years later a very serious study was undertaken and it's a sobering read indeed:

He didn't make a reactor. Just a Superfund site.
>>1174243
maybe its also a carbon monoxide detector and you are gassing yourself

Buy a small fan just like this:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001R1RXUG/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1494527567&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=Fan&dpPl=1&dpID=51GtslQDt8L&ref=plSrch
Aim towards the alarm and turn it on every time you're going to cook anything that'll set it off. I had the same problem in my small apartment, especially when grilling meat that should would go off every time. With fan, problem solved.

Somebody told me once that heat detectors are better in a kitchen because they need a fairly high temperature to go off but im not sure
>>1175928
Alarm tech here, this is actually correct
i hit rock bottom the other night w mine. it has the sharpest chirp known to man, does 3 of those fuckers every six hours or so. even with a new a battery and a rest. i actually got out of bed at 4am, unplugged it from the ceiling, took it outside, and "drained" it by removing the battery and holding down the test button. put the battery back in, plugged it back in the wall, and it was quiet for about 48 hours. just heard the fucker chirp again a bit ago.

Where is the smoke detector? It shouldn't be in the kitchen. Have one near the stairs on each floor. It is also recommended to have one in each sleeping area, but I think that's overkill.
>>1175874
>Yo nigga get me out of this wack ass chrystal prison
>>1174294
You have a shit oven.
>>1174270
kek. plz try pic related also
>>1175963
Heat detector (on right) just above my apartment door to building hallway. It's connected to the building system as per fire code. My 120v photoelectric smoke detector with 9v backup battery in case line voltage goes down.
>>1174989
Actually new cheaper ones are IR based.
>>1174989
There are Ionization (which use radiation) and photoelectric (which use lasers).
>>1175957
The whole point of having them in or right next to the sleeping area is to wake you up. If you have a tiny house, one on each floor is fine. I live in an 1100 sq foot house and I am never more than probably 20 ft from one. If you have a giant 6k sq ft house that has solid walls, you might not hear the one going off upstairs if you are a sound sleeper. That is why smoke detectors are now all interconnected.
Also for future reference, they're not recommended in sleeping areas in most of the civilized world. They are required.

Thanks for that
