When I found some spikes from a local store, I finally bought them to make the kind of gloves I've always wanted. All studded gloves have tended to be fingerless, but these are actually practical winter gloves, with screws holding the spikes slid inside above the insulation so they're warm too.

This coat however is something else entirely. After my old camo coat practically broke apart and I couldn't find new one like it for years, I bought some green denim and went to a textile workshop to learn how to make one myself. My plan was to dye it with camo colors when it was done, but having worked with it for so long I actually grew attached to its bright color.

I was a little tired of using my Spyderco Tenacious for EDC, so i made a small fixed blade knife using a Mora Companion as the blade donor. This was my first time making a composite laminate. It's old jeans and polyester resin (all i could get my hands on without waiting a long time). I pressed both halves of the handle at the same time with the blade stuck betweend them and wrapped in saran. That way the blade didn't stick and the halves could be easily separated, yet both pieces had the shape of the tang cast into them. This helped a lot with positioning. I had a coworker weld some pins onto the blade and milled blind holes in the scales, hopefully this makes the whole thing a little sturdier.
The handles were shaped on a belt sander, polished with sandpaper and finished with beeswax. They feel like wood, which is nice.

For a first try i am satisfied with the result, but i know i need to do the gluing better next time.

I'm currently making a modular leather sheath for it.

I'd saw shim/wedge and make it seem as part of the japanese aesthetic/design. I put a curve on the one edge. you probably should have done a curve or other "fancy" rafter tail on the ends of those rafters anyway.
the notch just looks bad.
>>
>>1168317
>the notch just looks bad.
unless you plan to notch ALL of the boards. then it might look better -- but will be more work to get them all just right. and you will have to tear apart a lot of what you have already done. the wedge is the easier better looking solution and with a little thought, can be made to look like it was planned that way all along.

I saw something years ago where they used a piece of gutter (plastic type) slung in the back just a inch or so below the top surface to hold all the wires power cords etc. kept them together and out of way and out of sight.
>>
>>1163013
Put a sheet of something on top and just replace that when it wears out. I use Masonite at work but that would not be a good choice if you are doing oily work ie engines etc.
>>
>>1163245
I fixed a real one of those for the local pizza shop. Had a CRT drive issue and the power supply died another time. Still had a 20 cent coin mech in use in it.

Just declare the wood man. Mum brought wood in from NZ and crates come in every day on ships. They may want to fumigate it for foreign termites or some shit but just take the case off and let them fumigate that.
>>
>>1168396
They might allow fumigation (they don't always) but the other issue is shipping. It might cost me like $2k to get it in a crate on a shipping freighter and shipped like 16,000 miles, and the motors, amps, etc. can't be plugged into the power supply here anyway. Dunno what I can do really.
>>
>>1168412
Fair point on freight. Lots of those amps are multi voltage but burger land may not have got the /int/ versions I guess.
>>
>>1168451
I can probably just refuse the amps and the graphic EQ †bh but the Leslie motors are probably fugged.

Yeah just drew it up in SketchUp for a couple hours trying to think of the most efficient way to get what I wanted. Bought like 13 8ft 2x4's for the frame and one sheet of 1/2 inch Birch plywood. Built it with a drill, skilsaw, and tape measure. Took the weekend once the varnish finally cured. Just about $100 worth of lumber.

>>1168332
Ah smart, didn't think of that I just grabbed a bunch of Velcro strips that hold them all pretty neatly tucked away.

guess the nice thing about the gutter idea is you don't have to be so neat and organized with the cords and wires - just shove them all in the gutter out of sight and when you need to change the configuration of any of them you can easily pull out the ones you are changing... just thinking the velcro would be bit more PItA to undo it all to get to the cord or wire you need to change...
the gutters also come in a dark brown color which also helps them fade away from sight (or could be painted black).

I built a computer/music station desk many years ago and built in a large "pocket" hidden at the back under the desk's surface. essentially it was a built-in gutter where I just stuffed all the power cords, power strips and power blocks so that from there there was only one solitary cord hanging down plugging into the wall outlet.
>>
>>1161028
I guess this counts.

Not impressive in any way, but I threw together an electromagnet a while back. The battery pack on the right was how I turned it on, though I need to make some sort of housing so I can reliably plug it in.

Alternatively, would some sort of ac to dc converter that I can plug into the wall work if I was able to run the DC through the wire around the magnet?

>>
>>1169313
Check out Amazon or Mouser for 2-pole molex plugs for the batter disconnect. You could get a couple sets so you can go from batteries to the magnet or the battery charger, and from the magnet to a desk top power supply really quickly.
You can make a variable DC power supply with a lamp dimmer switch and a rectifier. Add a large capacitor if you want to get fancy and clean up your source quality. Or just get a $50 desk top power supply and break out the cables yourself. Just make sure you have a breaker in line near by so you're not constantly blowying the breaker in your panel if it's far away.

I don't have a pic, but my bf spilled water all over his computer and it shut off. I went to a hardware store and bought a fitting screwdriver, opened the bottom of the laptop, moved some funky looking wires (while feeling like a l33t hacker) and blowdried the motherfucker with a cool breeze. Removed the battery ofc.

Okay so this is the most basic thing, I know, but it was a big step for me. We had always just gone to the store when we got a hard drive shut down virus, or some other computer accident. But I think it really pays off to invest time into understanding how the computers are fixed.

But I think though that the next time I try something similar that I wear an ion bracelet.

this is a meme. 70% of the military is support POG's who do shit like spinning wrenches and riding a desk. its an inherent attribute of having a modern industrialized military. we couldn't maintain the manpower numbers needed to keep things running if we only recruited males. there aren't enough poor/lower middle class men to fill the ranks.
