Sure I get what you are saying, but I am not looking for info on commercial viability, I am wondering if anyone here has had stuff made from any of the materials I listed milled before in small numbers, this seems like a more likely board for that than /biz/.

I dont mill anything but for like 500 usd or so u can buy a jewlers forge and cast then polish your shit. Jewelry is kind of an overdone niche market i think but hey, make something you or your wife or a friend might like and keep a tally of time and cost. Thy and sell it or give it away and duplicate it for sell. If nothing else u wasted time making a few rings. Oh well right?

So you want to mill ring blanks for a profit essentially?

Sounds like a losing proposition if you don't bring something unique to the table. If we're talking fine metals, it isn't worth milling because the weight loss is too high. You'll spend tens or hundreds of thousands on equipment to manage your gold or silver dust, so you'd need to have a massive scale operation to offset that. Even with base metals, your margins are gonna be extremely low, because ring blanks arent worth squat. You're talking about making something that will be sold at a flea market because you're not adding value through craftmanship, design or precious metal.
