Went and bought me a Big Red Wrench today. American made Victor valves and hose with a Smith torch handle and head. The acetylene cylinder is more than half full, too. I've need looking for a torch forever, and finally found one at a great deal.

nice, get used to filling that oxygen tank every couple of days if you use your welder heavily. make sure to pick up some flashback arrestors. Acetylene torches need to be premixed right? i forget if they can be surface mix as well.

Nice gas axe. Be sure to crack the valves open for a second before you put the regulators on do a leak test before you fire up. Are you going to do any welding with it or just cutting?
>>
Mostly just cutting. I have a DC stick welder and a DC MIG already.
>>
How much $$ did you pay?

Where I live there's only one place that refills cylinders. All thier cylinders are rentals only ($99 for a lifetime rental or something). Therefore if you buy a rig used you have to make sure the cylinders don't belong to the company or they'll confiscate them when you go to get them filled and tell you to go fuck yourself.

The competition between gas companies can cause some bullshit. It's all about who's name is stamped onto the threaded ring for the safety cap. If there is no name on the ring then you have privately owned bottles, don't let them swap your tanks out with theirs if you ever plan on moving or going to another gas place.
Also if you are just cutting you may want to look into swapping the acetylene for propane or propylene, it's cheaper and less dangerous. You only need acetylene if you're going to oxyfuel weld.

b careful.

some insurance companies won't cover you if you store it in an attached garage, even if they aren't the cause.
>>
>>1150427
I'm storing it in my shed. The cart has wheels, so that's doable.
>>

Get rid of that bungee and put a chain there.

what he said about propane
>>
>>1150372
$300! The cylinders are worth at least that by themselves. These are the big cylinders, not the little bastards that run out every 30 minutes.
>>
>>1150434
>Chain, not bungee

I'm on that. That was one of the first things I was planning on doing. Chain is mandatory. Bungee is stupid.
>>
>>1150319
If you end up using it a bunch, you might look into petrogen, uses gasoline instead of acetylene
>>
>>1150423
Propane aint cheaper here in Kansas.
>>
>>1150705
Petrogen rigs are like 3k. Almost exclusively used by well funded fire depts. And if he's just cutting with it he can shut the acetylene off.

You're getting ripped off. Acetylene tanks are full of porous material, making them much heavier than regular bottles, and have to be filled with acetone before getting charged. You're nuts if you think the logistics of transporting and retailing acetylene is cheaper than propane. You can buy propane at almost any gas station or general store in the US. The local Lincoln Electric rep was out at the shop the other day and was baffled that we use acetylene.
