Hey /diy/ are there any other interesting people on youtube who build shit like michaelcthulhu? ive found a couple of channels before but it was mostly people with bland as fuck personalities with shit video quality. Not really looking for like, how to channels. Just people hanging out in their garage making cool shit that they like.

I like watching this dude, he inspires me a lot to get out and make or do something. The bitch is he can really upload videos once a month or longer.

I've found the King of Random to be fun to watch but nowadays it's just clickbait and silicone molds. Check out his older videos though.
>>
>>1130812
This.

Guys seems to be stuck following fads or out of ideas. Dude soeaks clear and has quality instructions.

Built a trailer mounted forge after learning from him. Can pour 100 pounds aluminum soon.
>>
>>1130812
Nighthawkinlight is like his old videos, but without the clickbait.
He doesn't put out videos nearly as often, but they're all the better for it.

I'm not into metal working but this stuff is cool and relaxing to watch.

This Old Tony is fucking A+++ youtube material. He's like AvE but more technical on the machining and less bullshit-y. love 'em both though. Keep your stick smelling nice.
>>
>>1131050
I ask unantagonistically, i would love an exposition on how ave is abullshitty
>>
>>1131062
He's got his shit down for sure, but the way he talks isn't exactly right out of a spec sheet, and he slips up a lot in describing things. I mean, he admits this himself and makes the viewers aware that he's dicking around. He does make some of the funniest videos in the DIY section of the internet.

>swedish nut lathe
>>
>>1131050
AvE sometimes has no clue what he's talking about and the people in the comments have to correct him.

He thought if you switched the connections on a universal motor your appliance would spin in reverse and stuff like that.
>>
>>1131062
Not the guy you asked, but the way i see it AvE is more lighthearted and less concrete. BOLTRs are a pleasure to watch and as an ME student i can lear something from them, but the other videos are just entertaining and that's it. This Old Tony's videos are usually more informative and the humor is much more subtle.
>>
+1 for This Old Tony
also:
green beetle - knife making (and forging)
man at arms reforged
clickspring - pure mashine porn
walter sorrells - again knifemaking

My top favourite channels
>>
might as well ask here. is there any sort of compact wood milling machine / lathe combo i could fit in an apartment?
>>
Keith Rucker - restores vintage machinery and bits and pieces. The LeBlond restoration is a nice watch
Cosmas Bauer - Makes some neat things every now and again
Matthias Burger - Repairs/builds/restores things. Has a pleasant voice
Torbjörn Åhman - Traditional blacksmithing, very nice looking and relaxing videos

Maybe it's just that fact that my apartment is a studio apartment on the 15th floor in Manhattan, but your post made me belly-laugh

I have been enjoying this fellow lately. He is all over the place from repairs, to restorations, to tear downs, and complete overhauls, hacks and original creations.

if you mean making up malapropisms just to sound folksy, then yes

These guys often do videos 'together' or mention each other.

Like they'll mention another youtuber and send them a part to make or something of their specialty and then that youtube will make video of them doing it.

So often you can find 'good' channels like that. Chances are if you like a channel, you'll like that creators taste/mentions.

You don't know jackshit about power hammers do you? There is no time that you'd even have your hand within a foot of the dies while actually forging.

And if I did have a power hammer?

>you're gonna love the the one time you slip and crush your hand under the power hammer.

Everything carries dangers, but using a power hammer is considerably more dangerous than hammering something by hand.
Also, if I can hit a piece of steel with relative accuracy like in the video, what makes you think I'll suddenly hit my hand which is about a foot (or a little less) from the hammer head?

i dont get why 'nerd' culture types stand like that with dumb expressions on their face like theyre trying to look like cute little kids or something. same with fopish steampunk themed shit like that respirator. god forbid he use one that works rather than his home made faux copper aspirin bottle.

also, why is a guy his age still excited about making swords and gaudy ones at that. the kind of shit you would think was cool when you were 8, but embarrassed about as an adult.
>>
>>1135559
thats easy;
he hasnt grown up or he is pandering to a specific group of people.

Why are you embarassed about liking things? You've got one life to live man, stop caring so much about what everyone thinks about you and have some fun.
>>
>>1130770

He's a giant faggot welding "swords" for manchildren whilst being some kind of steampunk loser gentlesir "quirky" cunt

I have seen people call him a blacksmith and I can only shake my head
>>
>>1135559
Dude, I'm making swords for a living based on originals for reenactment. It's a fucking awesome thing to do.
On the other hand he is a faggot and a fucking dilettante if it comes to metalworking. The only person on the planet who makes expensive, unusable, oversized, crudely made, awkward to handle wallhangers. That guy is a joke.

Guy makes a lot of bowls and cutting boards, and the occasional interesting thing. Mainly I just want his shop.
