So I broke my hand in the fourth metacarpal (ring finger inside palm pic very related).

It didn't grow properly, and over four months later, I still can't shake hands with a girl without letting out a shriek. The docs said it'll be like that, but I'm losing a lot of weight (hungry skeleton) and subsequently self-respect.

They won't put a cast on my hand because I had one for 4 weeks and any longer than that would make my fingers stiff for life.

I would really like to be able to work out (I can finally do push ups without tears) but I can't possibly lift. I would really like to go swimming again.

Is there any way to make a DIY cast so I can go swimming or work out again?

>inb4 wait for it to grow

>It didn't grow properly
well break it again
>>
>>1130755
Thanks for the immediate bump. It just hasn't fully grown is what I mean.
>>
Why are you losing a lot of weight?
>>
>>1130764
I don't work out, was through a rough break-up and work from home.
I don't eat cause of all the aforementioned stuff make me lose appetite, but exercise would help a great deal. Can't run in this snow hell either.

Is there any waterproof cast I could make myself? Just need it while swimming
>>
doctoring is not something to /diy/

I'm not a doctor but common sense would say trying to put too much stress on it before it is fully healed will cause a lot more problems
>>
Appreciate all the advice, but I know this. It's been 4 months and the bone should be fine, the surrounding tissue is not, hence immense pain by handshakes.

Is there really nothing I could make? I'm all out of ideas, and I really want to get back on track. Could you point me out to some sort of material I could maybe use?
>>
>>1130771
>Is there really nothing I could make?

depends on what specifically you're looking for
>>
>>1130754
Please refrain from doing extreme masturbation next time
>>
>>1130767
You're a retard. If the doctors say to not cast it don't fucking put a cast on and fuck your hands up. Just jog and stay off the hand so it doesn't get hurt and can heal you dumb bastard.

With how dumb you are I wouldn't be surprised if you just hit your hand with a hammer on purpose to see what would happen.
>>
>>1130771
If it's the tissue damage and nerve pain around it no cast is going to fix it. Just treat it nice and don't fucking give it any way to get inflammation going or any kind of inflammatory response.

The tissue and nerves are hurt. Let them heal. Just hold onto a kickboard and use your legs to swim for exercise.
>>
You can't rush healing anon. At least, without screwing yourself up further.
>>
>>1130754
I know your pain OP
I broke this bone on my left hand middle and ring finger in a bar fight. real stupid on my part. 3 years later I can't play guitar for longer than 45min and the last 15 is very painful. I still cant dead lift much, and just starting to get back to the climbing wall.
cast won't help, maybe physio would help if you can afford it.
>>
no pain no gain?
uhm try doing simple task with your hands and keep them moving keeping it still is not going to help
i think keeping it working having your hands busy through out the day is the best

Did someone say hand breaking? Just went through that a bit ago myself.

Honestly, OP, it's gonna hurt unless you take care of it right. My hand was in a cast for like a week and a half, and was stiff as hell when they took it out. Moving it at all was pretty painful, but I followed the doctor's advice to regularly attempt to stretch the tendons in that area (they gave me some sheet of hand exercises), and by the time I went back for a checkup, I could make a full fist with little issue. Kept it up, and it's no problem. The bone even healed on a curve, but I've been told it's fine as it is.

And yeah, hand shaking was fairly terrible for a bit.

Ask your doctor about a removable brace. I was given one once the cast was off to wear during certain times to protect the bone as it finished up healing. You may be able to get one for swimming, but there's pretty much nothing they can use to brace it against weight lifting. You're just gonna have to wait it out. For now, it's leg day.

That pic. What the fuck. Why.

Same thing happened to my cousin on right hand. Started healing without cast. Doctors won't put a cast on it. Dr said it'll heal in another 6 months
>>
>>1130754
Use your other hand.

>>1130788
Something to keep my palm protected like pic related
>>1130801
I will, I have learned now
>>1130806
I can't jog in all this snow and ice I live in, I'll end up with more broken bones. The hammer thing wasn't because I would like to see what happened, it was because I was masturbating with a hammer duh
>>1130807
Good idea, but my hands need the most exercise cause they're twigs atm
>>1130815
Can't afford physio, but do some minor exercises
>>1130825
>removable brace
what? I'll check that out
>>1130897
Preferably out of wood and nails, something to do with a hammer would be ecstatic
>>1131061
Seen a fish with one fin? I have. They drown after a while I think

Sorry but if you tissue damage still you need to see a specialist.

I still say it's a bad idea, but some layers of old socks, possibly around inner layers hardened with fiberglass resin is what I was thinking

I broke my right central metacarpal when I was 16, spend 5 1/2 months, yes months in a cast. Three different casts actually up to my thumb and first two fingers one way and past my elbow (90 degree pose) the other.
The best part about changing casts is you cant scratch or wash your arm. If you take off the dead skin and recast the itching from the new skin growing back is mindbending. Daily excersizes with the exposed fingers, under cast flexing and still came out like an alien arm. So weird. One handed fapping for a year and it balanced back out with the other.

I always thought the doctor was a cast fetishist. Hearing stories of those tiny bones not healing right makes me glad for it now. After nearly losing my left arm thats the strong one.
>>
I guess you could make a cast out of melted plastic bags.
-> Plastic, wouldn't be affected by water
Another option could be a really tight glove, wich would keep your hand in place.

But, I think there's a ton of exercises you can do without using your hand, you should do them.
After a while, baking could be a good way to start to use your hand again and make it stronger. (making a dough)
