Does anyone know how to create detailed miniatures? I'm looking to build and entire city for a film and I don't know what methods or materials to use. Google is yielding some various results but nothing is very clear. This photo is the way the city would look.

I used to paint little pewter D&D figures.
A stationary magnification glass with a light will help with detail. You can shave down paint brushes with a razor blade
Do you have to build the entire city? You could use CGI for the wide shots then a few miniatures for the close ups with more CGI buildings in the backgrounds if you planned your angles well in advance.

Imagine it as a whole world but also devided into places contained within.
Some things will not need nearly as much detail as others
Start with a rough model of your world this will serve for zoom in shots.
Add only a little detail at first focus on key areas.
Highly detailed aspects of your town will need to be built individually for example. The church in the town square could be built in a larger scale therefore making the detail work more possible
Hope this made and since.
I think the scale modelling guys post in /toy/, also the guys in the historical wargames general /hwg/ on /tg/ might be able to provide resources. Model rail general on /n/ should be good, but it's shit for resources. I'd help you out with some suggestions but all my magazines and books are a day's travel away and I won't be home for maybe a week.

Seconding this, professional cinematic model makers rarely make everything to the same level of detail.
