I finally got a new microwave

My old 1986 magic chef still works but I think it's slowly becoming a fire hazard so I'm throwing it away.

Is there anything worth taking out of an 86 microwave

The transformer, even if for some stupid reason you don't want to endanger your life with high energy high voltage experiments the copper in it is worth some money as scrap.

PS. modern microwaves have high frequency transformers in them, nothing of value.

Give me the transformer. They are gigantic in those 80s microwaves.

With the transformer you can make:

Spot Welder (like the one in this vid)
Ultra Heavy Duty Power Supply
Lichtenberg Figure Wood burner
Metal Melter
Super Electromagnet
With 2 transformers you can make an arc welder.

-The fan can be used for many things.
-There are several nice heavy duty switches.
-If it has a turn table motor, those are great for a variety of things from small electric generation to a fly tying rotary for drying fishing flies.

Remember the big ass capacitor needs to be shorted to drain it. Google how to do that safely before working on it.

Think I can use it to weld exhaust pipe? like stick welding?

I've been wanting to make an exhaust on my garage with a rubber connector so I can leave my car running in the garage

You will need a second transformer and hook them together (google how) in order to use arc welding with small diameter sticks for thin metal. Do lots of testing on scrap first.

If you are the type of person who can detect, find, and properly patch all leaks in an exhaust system then go for it. Otherwise, all it takes is one small leak to give you a pretty bad time.

OK guys,

I'm going to remove the transformer from it.

How can I discharge the capacitor without a multi-meter?

Can i just put a pos and neg from a light bulb on each side of it?
I think I remember reading that somewhere
